The stock cooler is also fine for mild overclocks.

For moderate overclocks, the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro is hard to beat.

I liked the Glacialtech review. Though it looks like the artic freezer 7 pro is even less expensive.

Has anyone had any problems with the ASUS P5KC? After reading some reviews on Newegg I see that people are saying DDr2 isn't well supported, and users are reporting their 1066Ram is being lowered to 800 mhz.

Are you sure you want to use the P5K C? The p5k/wifi-ap e is what I have. It has no SLI, and supports 45nm procs, and has the p35 intel chipset, has integreated wifi, and has native 1066 memory support. Here is the link to the Newegg page:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131196

As for the RAM, I use the corsair XMS 2. I recommend getting 4 Gb of it, if you really want to use Vista. Anyway, good luck. Hope that you can build this thing without any trouble.

Sorry about that. I just got confused with the RAM I had, thought it was 1066, when it is really 800, and thought that the MOBO and RAM worked very well together. I guess that I cannot be of any use to this thread sorry for the misinformation ](*,)

It's no problem. I plan on getting some DDR2-800 ram now, and upgrading to DDR3 once it comes down in price.

I like to future proof when possible.

I just put together a system with the Asus P5k mobo and the E8400 and its fast and stable does superpi 1m at 15.7 sec and the 16 k at .69 sec at stock speeds there are some with stuck temp diodes so i would not get the open box E8400 got mine for $199.00 free shipping new egg runs cool. The cooler is about have the size of the E6750 stock coolers. Good luck with what ever you chose I also have the P-182 case for my other build with the E6750. Nice case has some heat issues if you run the lowerHDD chamber case fan to fast it blow heat into the mobo section and raises the mobo temps. The new AS5 has a different consistently to it and it sticks the cpu to the heatsink better than the last tube i purchased had a hard time getting the heatsink of the chip first time around with the AMD system i build with the 5000+ BE which couldn't compare to the speed of even the 6750 chip.

I think I have everything I need.

Ordered the Q6600 from Frys for $199 (had to pay tax as I live in Ohio... that sucked)
RAIDMAX SAGITTA ATX-921WB Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASUS P5KC LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

Total for the build, not including what I already have at home is $620 approx.
There are $65 worth of rebates as well.

Case is being shipped from NJ while the rest is being shipped from CA... I hope I can get the case to prep it first! I might call in sick on friday, I think I will be coming down with the computer building bug!

Wish me luck guys, this is my first build.

Trust me, this is the first place I will turn if I have any problems or questions. I do have the phone number for my friend who has experience, and I will give him a call for urgent questions, and I will post here for anything that I don't need to know immediately.

Oh ok, well, I know I have the ability to put it together and push the button, but if it doesn't post I have no clue where to start!

Would it be better to put everything together before putting it in the case to make sure that it will post? I would hate to install everything then put it in the case only to find out that the MoBo is bad.

I will shoot a few as I go if I can remember. I was excited as hell when I was actually purchasing the parts. A little nervous too. I would hate for something to be DOA and not have way a build for a while.

yeah DOA is the worst.. your all ready to play with your new toy only to find out you have bad brand new hardware. When i built my computer the DVD drive was bad.. lucky for me I had other computers at home I could pull one out of until the replacement came. you want to be sure you have an anti static mat and wrist straps especially if your going ot fire up your motherboard outside of the case to test it. last thing you want to do is fry your good motherboard/hardware testing it to make sure its not bad.

Ya, DOA is always a possibility, and then you have random compatibility issues. No matter how selective you are with your parts, some will just refuse to play nice together. Thats why I wished you luck.

So you're saying I should put it in the case to fire it up? I dont have an anti-static mat, but I do have a wooden dinning room table, though it has an area rug underneath it.

its easy to make an cheapo anti static mat, just get some tinfoil, wrap it around a placemat, solder a wire to the tinfoil, and run it to the ground of an electrical outlet. its gehto but it works
