All This Rain Has My Yard Looking Kick Ass

Post by Apoptosis »

Hate to brag or anything, but my yard looks great this year... All this rain and cool weather we are getting in St. Louis has my yard looking killer.

Just took this picture at 7am before it started to rain yet again.

It won't look this good in the dead of summer, so I'm going to enjoy it now by going outside and laying in it. Heck, I might even do a grass angel.

Nice lawn. We're getting the same precipitation here. I've been mowing once a week, and quite honestly should probably be doing it ever 4 days. I'm almost to the point where I wish it would be middle of summer so I wouldn't have to mow as much.

Get a couple kids, they fix that nice lawn for ya  But Nate is proud of his lawn.

Me I could care less, where I live not every one takes care of their lawn. I gave up fighting to keep the lawn nice years ago. It don't look nasty, but nothing like Nates.

As for the rain, it can go away.

 i'm shocked you guys have been mowing even, i was THINKING about taking the mower out of the shed yesterday, but it(john deere 265 ride-on) would have got stuck before i even got to the grass, so i ignored my wants, and we had a really dry april and fairly dry may so far, so that tells you SOMEthing about my yard, AND its 4 acres has decent pitch too, owell, i MAY mow it next week, if i don't get stuck in the middle of it

I started mowing in March and put fertilizer down way way back then. I've been cutting the front twice a week ever since and I do the back once a week since not too many people see the back.

I'm pretty sure my lawn used to be a cow field, more scrub than grass. So far no amount of Scotts Turf builder, fertilizer, or herbicide has been able to whip it. Might be partially due to sitting on almost solid rock. I even took an old drill to the Dandelions tubers and got most of them.

Now the neighbor mows it every week and I enjoy the one patch I managed to clear by the back deck.

I would rather have a burnt yard from the hot sun rather than the rain causing me to mow and mow and mow the yard. WHY ??? It takes too much fuel to run the mover. OK, call me *CHEAP-O*

might wanna be careful with those grass angels. At first glance, I thought your mailbox was a tombstone. Might have some added excitement in your neighborhood.

LOL I thought it was a tombstone too :)

Nice yard! I just put some grub killer and some fertilizer/weed killer on mine, so hopefully it will turn out real nice.

Mike

TIP: - If you want a really nice green lawn, spread pelletized lime on your yard. Most home stores have it. Now you dont have to pay Chem-Lawn, Scotts, etc to make your grass green

Nice grass.

My lawn looks like #$%^. But I just started a job at a golf course. I'm thinking about taking the sod cutter down the #9 fairway, rolling it up and throwing it in my truck. Then I would have a nice looking lawn!

Don't laugh at the old push mower, those do the best cut you can get. And always cut in a different direction each time.

I was sitting on the back porch having coffee and browsing the forum. My lawn saw Apotosis lawn and I'm pretty sure mines on strike now. Brown spots are starting to appear.

i can't do it on different days, because that makes it grow differently, like, i have 4 major sections that i mow(with the JD) separately, and one after the other, and make the overlap so you don't see where the mower turns around(it always looks stellar in that respect) then when i'm done the big parts, i have two little sections by the pool which always look like yours nate(except color because they are different types of grass) that i mow with a push.

btw, all in all, mowing alone takes ~3.5 hours(not including weedwhacking and doing other random places of grass)

nate and BIO, do you bag your grass?

300 free bricks that match the house, one case of bud light, two people that have never built a mailbox = a big ass solid brick mailbox that will kill anyone that hits it ;)

I have till this year... now I bag like every other time I cut. My yard seems to be doing better mulching - less weeds and it stay greener longer since the mulched lawn adds water and some of the fertilizer in it back to the yard.

i have to bag mine, it grows to fast to let me leave it. the lime really helps, especially if you have bad soil. i cant really post a pic right now, it has a lot of dead spots from the dogs. but if you really want you law to be awesome, fertilze and what not in the fall.

No bagging here, at least not yet, but I've only had part of the yard for 5 years now, Every summer I clear out another small section and expand it............. 8)

Keeps me busy during the summer anyways.
