LOL. yeah, I actually was lucky enough to snag an E8400 at CompUSA for $140 on Friday night, so I actually AM doing a new build right now.

Unfortunately my budget has been severely reduced. My fiance has decided that a better use of the money would be to purchase a new bed. So, that's what we're doing. We're buying a TempurPedic. And I now only have a budget of $500 to make something better than what I own. I can recycle my OS, HDDs, and DVDR, but that's about it. I could recycle my case, but I don't want to as the airflow is crap, and I never really like it to begin with. I could probably recycle my PSU, but I would imagine that due to it's age (4+ years) it's less efficient than modern PSUs, so the savings I might gain recycling it would be outweighed by the savings in electricity that I would gain buying a new one.

SO, here is my new list. I've mostly just picked what I could afford, with an eye towards upgrading in the future.

Thats the way it goes sometimes! But fear not. The great thing about building your own is that you can add to it bit by bit if you need too. As far as the cooler fitting trust me you wont have any issues. NewEgg just lowered the price on it too so its steal for $69.

Well it's built. All the parts arrived on Wednesday. All the parts, except the cpu... So by the time that showed up Thursday afternoon, I had everything ready to go. Everything installed with only a few minor hiccups, had the Nirvana pointing the wrong way, and there were a few bios options that I had to look up since the didn't exist when I last built a computer. Successful POST on the first try, so that's good. Now it's just a matter of seeing how fast we can make it run. I'm stable so far at 3.0ghz

I let Prime95 run overnight on both cores with no errors, temps never higher than 40c. However I'm not sure how accurate that is, there is something speedstepping my cpu but I haven't found what it is yet. The bios doesn't have an EIST setting, so I'm at a loss to what is doing it. Any ideas?

Also, how much faster do you think I can clock this puppy?

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ is best for CPU temperatures. But the program can only be as accurate as the thermal sensor in the CPU, and in most CPUs they aren't quite accurate, but it's still good for a rough guide as to how the CPU is doing.

3Ghz is a nice clock for an E2180, good going. ^_^

I have to put about that much voltage in my E6600 to get it to the same clocks!
