$1500 to spend

Post by xevious »

firstly i hope im posting this in the right section.

Im building a new system for my friend. He would like the best performance w.o overclocking at this point.

the only thing i know off the bat is to recommend a 8800gts as the video card
for cpu he would like one of the newer quad cores--so i'm thinking q9300.

he has a monitor, keyboard, etc

so if at all possible anyone can recommend a mobo, dvd driver, ram and psu.

for psu im thinking either modu82+ 625 or a Corsair TX650W, HX520 or 620.

thanks a lot

One of the 1st things I like to ask when someone wants a new systems is what purpose do they intend to focus on? Be it gaming, video or music editing, ect... Also take in factors like will SLI or crossfire be needed? Data protection via RAID and so on. Some products do better at certin jobs then others. Will a keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor be needed? And lastly if any need for an older operating system. I've run into cases where I had to use older OS's due to the clients need to run an older application. Many of the of the Home\Office machines I've delt with as of late could not use Vista. Oh and a good UPS shouldn't be overlooked in many cases.

this will be for gaming and school work. some torrenting, watching movies. nothing too intensive

he needs a new os. how stable/relable is 64 bit xp? since i think 4gb ram is worth getting at this point.

diver support for xp64 is horrible, so if he wants 64bit then go with vista 64.
