Im Stuck Between Two Video Cards.Which One Should I Get?
Hello all.I recently built a new computer amd im having trouble choosing a video card.Ive narrowed my choices down to two.I don't know if I should get the XFX 9800GTX Black Edition or the Palit 8800GTS 1GB Sonic video card.I will be playing alot of the newer games like Call of Duty 4 and Crysis to name a few.Ill be running the resulutions at 1024 x 768 most of the time.Any advice or opions would be helpful as I don't know a whole lot about video cards. Thanks

At 1024x768 it would be a flip of the coin... personally... I'd get the cheaper one that fits your budget. If you plan on getting a bigger monitor in the next year or two then I'd go with the 1GB of frame buffer.

Both are way overkill, but I'd take the GTX ;)
Re: Im Stuck Between Two Video Cards.Which One Should I Get?
IMO, both are terrrible choices. I would go with a 9600GT if I were you, or just wait for the 4800 series.
Re: Im Stuck Between Two Video Cards.Which One Should I Get?
Me personally Id go for the newer 9800 model. I don't have that kind of cash to throw around right now but if I had I would go for that. I tend to never go topo of the range because the price is too high, my XFX 6600 GTX still does very well on most olde games but Crysis killed it so I ended up not playing it. Ideally the next card I want to get will have HDMI output too if that helps.

As already mentioned, get the cheaper one for your monitor!

go for the 8800 GT, or get a new monitor with higher resolution and then get the GTX(or GT260)

I've read reviews on the Palit 1Gb 8800GTS, and it doesn't seem as if there is any real benefit to having the 1Gb of memory as opposed to the stock 512Mb. And since you're considering the 9800GTX, I'm going to assume it is within your accepted price range. I say go with the 9800GTX and enjoy a longer period of time when you can run all your games at max settings and pwn the fools in COD4.

Yea it will certainly even the odds a bit, but don't expect to really pwn in COD4 online because there are too many people with aimbots and other hacks9see through walls and such).duplo83 wrote:I've read reviews on the Palit 1Gb 8800GTS, and it doesn't seem as if there is any real benefit to having the 1Gb of memory as opposed to the stock 512Mb. Honestly though if you have enough for a 9800GTX, you might just want to wait a week or so until the GT260 comes out.
