Why you should never help organise a lan.

Why you should never help organise a lan.

Post by kappage »

about 5 weeks ago i was asked by two 'geeks' (battle field 2 Freaks) to organize a LAN after Exams at school comon please please please do it do it. So after about three days i decided Yea it will be fun.
Started doing the down to earth stuff on monday (16th) spoke to the principle (first time in his office without being in trouble :finga: ) all looking good type up the consent forms print them off aswell, Now it is now Wednesday night and i have been told by the guys that wanted me to organize the lan can only come for about 4 hours of game play then we are down two people which will make the lan (new use of this word for me) Fail. So now i am left here thinking of ways to pick up the pieces, or Just completely cancel the lan.

Now these two guys are both Forced SDA's (by forced i mean their parents chose it for them at birth)(SDA= Seventh Day Adventist) and 1 They are incredibly over protective of there children the only excuse There parents have given us is that They will have to take sunday off work and at which they dont want to get them fired.

I am sorry if this seems like i have taken a shot at religion's it was not purpose and im almost positive that none of you would be SDA because they Support the Crappy Macs (its disgusting)

This is why you should not ever let yourself be talked into organizing a LAN for some friends Especially when they had, had 5 weeks to tell their parents they are going to a LAN. You might also think that their parents are right in being protecting But in actual fact one of the teachers has volunteered to go and would of also been playing the games, and i shall answer the question your probably thinking NO we are not 13 year olds that want to play WOW All of us are 17years of age.

About three minutes after making this post another SDA father has said that they are not allowed to take THEIR computer (which he worked for and paid for) to the lan because it could get damaged by us raging alcoholics which would get kicked out fo the school because SDA's dont drink.

P.S there is no alcohol at my lans.

I too have been burned by the promise of an 'awesome' lan party. I was promised the entire event would consist of nothing but BF2 and HL2:DM. Games that, at the time, would give my machine a workout and create the fast paced fun that make lan parties worthwhile. I tentatively agreed. BF2 was played for about half of an hour, and then someone got bored and turned on Warcraft III. Within minutes the entire group, minus myself, was playing a game that most cell phones could now run. Now I loved Warcraft III but this particular group of people had become obsessed with the game, forsaking all other options for it. Without a word to anyone, I silently packed up my things and left.

I will never attend a lan party again.

All of my friends pretty much play the same games, so we don't have problems with LANs. We played TF2, CoH, BF2, Garry's mod (my friend's brother is a garry's mod GOD).

I take every chance I get for a Lan, usually it is around 4 people and we go into public servers and mop up the bodies.

Aww man that sucks.

LAN parties done properly can be fun.

Next time you should get someone else to organise, and just take the computers somewhere and just do it without all the hassle of permission and stuff.
Sneak everyone out in the dead of night.

Well i have said to the guys Unless they can show up for the full duration (instead of 4 or so hours) That i wont even bother going myself. :-k
but what else is annoying the two that wanted me to do it are really into bf2 and no one else is so all they will want to play during the time they are there is Bf2. Then what is even more so annoying They believe that they are Soooo good at battlefield 2 last lan party we had they both where using Map Hacks (being able to see everyone's position on the map and name tag) so that is also another reason why nobody will want to play it with them.

I organized a LAN once. Sent emails like 4 weeeks in advance and stuff. By the time the LAn party happened there were only like 6 left, and none of them had the game that said that they did except me and one other kid. So we ended up taking turns 2v1 COD4 on som1's 360... which i could do any day with my neighbors
