Battlefield 2
Well, I've checked it out, and I'm seriously impressed.
Give the demo a try, and if you like it, the release date is June 22nd.

Well, this is in effort to keep polygons to a minimum as many many users don't have high end systems, such as myself. I have a 2600+ w/ a 9800 Pro and a 2.8GHz P4 w/ a Mobility 9700. It runs great on both with medium settings, but when you get too many polygons and junk on the screen, it's a killer.the tanks frigging disappear after they blow up...
No doubt the rag-doll physics of the Half-Life 2 engine are far superior. I don't think BF2 is meant to have people flopping around like that though. The area of play is so large it's not really needed at this point. Besides, that's just more crap that the server and client have to process. I also agree on the aspect of HL2, you can actually fall a few inches w/o getting hurt, where I noticed in ALL of the Battlefield games, you can fall an inch and get hurt or die. Lame physics right there. I jumped and fell an extra two inches from a decline in the terrain, in the BF2 demo, and got hurt....the physics isn't as good as the source engine...

I'm still very interested in the game. They haven't shown you a lot of what's in the game. They offer a few vehicles and a few weapons to what I understand. So, there will be a lot more to the game!

BTW, I will have a 32 Player BF2 server up as soon as the Linux dedicated server is available!

I'm running 1024x768... so, it's a video problem on your end! ;) ATI's 5.5 drivers are known to cause problems with BF2, 5.6 may also do the same, EA isn't 100% sure yet. So, if you have an ATI card, change back to older drivers and it'll work fine.audiophile wrote:everytime i try to start single player or join a multiplayer server, the game closes and goes back to desktop.

EDIT: nm... it's a resolution problem. apparently, it doesn't support anything higher than 800x600.

My brother has a 6800GT in his system and doesn't have any problems... Hmm... very interesting. He has it at I believe 1024x768 with everything maxed out. Looks outstanding and has a nice high, stable framerate, BTW.audiophile wrote:i have a bfg 6800gt oc... and the latest drivers...
oh well..

The only problem he has with BF2 and every other game, is with the NForce drivers and his SATA HDD. It lags a bit b/c of the NForce drivers, so he's gotta roll back.

i'll have to try that again... maybe i had it on another setting, but i doubt it. the way i found out about the resolution thing was from various forums i found on google. TONS of people are having the same problem and the resolution thing fixed it for most of them. there were a handful that it didn't help.

Demo Issues

There has been a few people experiencing the same problem. Most of which have something in common, they all have an Ati video card. For all of you having the game crash to desktop on launch, you're in luck. We might have a possible solution for you!
Try downloading these drivers: Omega Radeon Catalyst v2.6.0.5a (5.1)
Update: In testing the demo, EA has encountered some visual issues on certain ATI cards with the previous Catalyst drivers (5.5) and are working with yesterday's 5.6 release to discover if the issue is resolved. If in playing the Battlefield 2 demo you encounter texture corruption of any kind, we recommend rolling back to the Catalyst 5.1 drivers. ATI is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.
Sure you can, it's just a million times harder than CS. I snipe people in the head all the time (or try to anyway), it's just my style! ;)audiophile wrote:i really dont like how you cant get headshots

Oh, and my brothers NForce drivers weren't the problem... it was the brand new hard drive itself. It took a dump last night...
