I don't think that the cable is going to give enough power to the graphics card. The numbers don't add up. I think that Legit Reviews should do a through review of the power of the card and what power supply is required. Post what PSU. that can support the gtx280 card.

Once you get that adapter you should have no problem using that power supply with the GTX 280.

I think the video card companies (NV especially) have some stake in PSU companies...it's like pulling teeth to get real numbers from them on what their video cards actually need to run. The power supply recommendations that you see in LR video card reviews, and others around the web, are provided by AMD/Nvidia and are for the higest end CPU/Mobo/HDD/etc. on the market at the time.

Where this fails the consumer is that you have zero idea what you actually need because the majority aren't using the highest of the high end hardware. I ran into this problem myself just last night with a pair of 9600 GT's. If you go by what is in reviews you'd think for 9600 GT SLI you'd need a 500w PSU since most sites show them pulling in around 300W (a single card is just shy of 200w). I'm running them on an older 939 board and a 3000+ CPU. With one card folding in Vista the power draw was only 123W!! In this set up, with two cards folding and the CPU near 100%, the worst case scenario by my guess is 250W, which is easily within the range of my Antec Earth Watts 380.

I figured up a standard clocked GTX 280 on the test system and a standard clocked 9600 GT on the office PC. I'll see how the 9600 GT does for a bit and toss in a GTX 260.

Working on a laptop review right now, so the test system is free for now.

Remind me when we do this again, to do a test period before. Right now my team outpaces Dan's in PPD by 17.3K, but in reality were down in points by 46K, how the hell does that work

its not just you, although I hope you guys keep it going. I have no issues losing, as long as it keeps the team moving. I can always send Dan on a vacation if he gloats too much

lol, Someone sounds like they are going to be a sore loser :axe:

I know a few of your team have been mia with points, and basically all of our members have upped output for this competition.
I hate to think how intimidated some of your team must feel seeing the huge jump in ppd. :P

yeah, a lot of my effort is forever. I only have 1 "loaner" machine running about 2500ppd right now that won't continue to fold after the war is over. Hopefully, this will be the motivation to get him Folding on his own, but I'm not sure.

Since we decided to do the war I'm folding on parts that were laying around or turned off.
With the summer here and the girlfriend now living with me I hadn't set up any folding other than a 9600 GT. It's hot as heck and she hasn't had a job since the middle of May. Thankfully she just got a kickass teaching job and will start the second week of August.
She is out of town until Sunday so for now if it's a little warm in the extra bedroom I'm the only one who's going to notice, but I gotta figure out a more effecient way to run these machines.

i was projected at 38ppd, now im at 155, nearly quadrupled, from crap-> somewhat respectable, but i need to delete two clients so i don't have to choose which i'm gonna run, one's at 95%, so that's goin first
