Asus P5k EPU, P5k PRO, P5KC?

Post by enjoiflip »

Ok i'm choosing between this three boards, i've read the reviews for both p5k PRO and p5kc but i have no idea if the p5k EPU is good. Recently i asked Methious for his opinion on the p5kc and it's quite promising considering how i would be using it for. Does anyone have any idea if the p5k EPU is good for say slight over clocking and lifespan as i dun plan to change my mobo maybe in the next 2 years or so. There was a review comparing the p5K PRO and p5KC and the difference was'nt much in speed wise and OC capabilities. These 3 mobos are under my budget so which is considered the best in performance and life span wise?

Thanks in advance

I am enjoying my P5KC, It has plenty of upgrade possibilities (Crossfire, and DDR3 support), and plenty of extras like an esata port, and 6 USB ports, plus a PS2 port for a keyboard if you need it.

I don't know much about those other boards, so I would just go with what you need, and what is in your budget.

I like the P5KC well enough that I'm keeping it for my backup rig, it's not real great with DDR3 at higher frequencies but with ddr2 800 running at 1:1 with the FSB at 400 it's pretty nice.

When I run my Mushkin ddr3 12800 at the rated 1600 Mhz the NB gets smokin hot and active cooling has a hard time keeping up. Might be because I was using a 1066 FSB q6600 over clocked to 3.2 FSb 400 Multiplier 8 to get the ram at the rated 1600

I'm going to give it another shot with an e8400 1333 FSB processor and see how it does and throw the quad on a Gigabyte EP45-DQ6. The EP45-DQ6 looks to be a phenomenal board, no ddr3 but 10 sata, ferrite chokes, solid caps, quad gigabit lan, hardware raid, just a couple more benches on the P5KC and I switch the boards out I can't wait. (Comparing the P5KC to the EP45-DQ6 in a review should be interesting)
