SMP and GPU2
is it possible to run these both at the same time? the SMP client and the GPU2 client?

Re: SMP and GPU2
yes!
I think the best way to go. 1 smp and 1 GPU2. I tried 2 smp clients and 1 GPU2 client and the GPU2 would crash after 1 of the SMP clients that shared the same core. The GPU2 needs its own core.

Re: SMP and GPU2
i am not sure i know how to allocate each program (smp & gpu) to there own core. or do i even need to?

Re: SMP and GPU2
You don't have to but it will help your points out a bunch.
Honestly I would just bail out on SMP folding with a dual core with a video card like yours. You should see 5k ppd with it while with SMP it's tough to get 5k out of a 3.8GHz quad core that is dedicated to nothing but folding. Even setting the GPU client at high priority once it completes a unit you'd have to reset it again. So, the SMP client is going to be constantly slowing down the GPU and not really putting much out.
I've given up SMP folding on my dual core CPU's and have them running Nvidia GPU folding. Another upside to GPU folding on NV cards is that CPU speed does not matter. I've got an 8800 GT folding on a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (stock 1.8GHz) putting out the exact same points as it does on a 4GHz E8400.

Re: SMP and GPU2
If you are already folding with SMP client then set the smp affinity setter in your windows task manager to a least two cores. Download the GPU client from folding@home. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther You want to download the GPU2 client. Any questions, just ask. You may want to download FahMon2.3.2b to keep track of the two things going on. You can download FahMon here. http://fahmon.net/
Bwall is right! with a dual core it is best to use GPU2 client. Don't mess with SMP client because it will not give you more points. GPU2 is the way to go.

Re: SMP and GPU2
ok that sounds much easier. lol i have 6 machines folding
2 slower p4's 1.3 and a 2.8
8800gs 320
8600 gt 256
8800 gts 512
and a ps3
with all the 8 series cards runng the gpu, we'll see how those do.. Thanks guys! I can probally get two more p4 machines running with the extra parts I have but we'll see how this goes for now... not looking forward to my electric bill this month

Re: SMP and GPU2
I need to move my PS3 and my computer in the living room down to the control center(basement) with the other three computers. the last two days comming home from work its like a oven - those maching are just cranking out heat all day with no A/C going.

I hear you though, in the "computer room" I've got 2 machines folding with three video cards(98GTX, 96GT, 88GT) and it's a sauna in that room without a fan that I set up to blow in air from the next room.
Re: SMP and GPU2
quick question:
i was running the sigle core text based client prior to running the GPU2 client. i notice that 2 of my computers had errors transmitting the WU back to the server i think they each have 3 or 4 waiting to be uploaded. i am guessing the server has been down or something. is it safe to leave thes clients running with the GPU2 client running until the WU are able to be uploaded?

Re: SMP and GPU2
would you recommend leaving these text clients running after they upload the WU's or will it slow down the GPU2 client to much?
