New GPU client is out and have some questions

Post by vbironchef »

My GPU client stopped working today. I instaled new version of GPU client. I went to start SMP client and it would not start. I instaled new version of SMP as well. Ok, my questions are: What is and what does DeinoMPI?
When I started the SMP client and checked the affinity setting it was not using 100% of cpu. It was only showing one process in task manager, so started one more SMP and checked the task manager again and now I have two processes running.
Bottom line: I now have 3 SMP clients running and 1 GPU client running. Why are the new SMP clients giving so low of points? I now have 100% usage of the cpu, but my memory is not being used as much as before with the old clients. Is anybody else running into these issues? Like I said this just happened today. Everything is different now with the new SMP. Maybe I don't have it instaled right? For a short time today I could not connect to Legit Reviews, how about anyone else that could not connect today.

Glad mine are still running, for now!

Why cant they just make them updateable?

That denoiMPI is the new MPI - I remember them talking about it from the beta version that I have installed on the vista64 computer.

I will have to download the new clients, I guess, and give them a try to see if I have the same problems. I dread the expiration dates.

I lied - my vista 64 computer was stopped so I installed the new client like a good little folder.

I have the SAME problem. First you have to add the -smp switch, which is REALLY stupid since it is a SMP client, then it detects both cores, but only runs at 50% speed.

gotta love updates :( I guess I will have to go through the hell of getting rid of this client and going back to the new expiration dated 5.91/5.92.

Mike

I dont even want to think that the Linux computer needs updated - unless it gets it automatically from the update program, that is just hell on earth to do that one.

I am going to try this version of SMP client later today Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008 SMP client console version 6.22 beta2 for MPICH (32-bit or 64-bit) I will let you know how it goes. The other version is not a happy camper on my rig.

LOL - nice catch. We know where Nates mind is 8)

Mike

smp is still only running on 1 core on the vista64 system. I might have to get my fat lazy ass up and fix it today.

I am having similar problems with my 8800GTX, its crashing after every WU
Has anyone found a fix for this yet? If there's not a fix I may go back to the older client.

After every SMP client finishes you have to manually set the infinity setter. The GPU needs it own core.

I am not running SMP, just the GPU.
Crashing after every WU is a little exaggeration, it crashes every few and it is inconsistent on timing or number WU it completes before it crashes.
I have had to restart the GPU Client 4 times in the last 3 days.

I'll add the GPU client to the list as well. I have a laptop here in work that can do both SMP and GPU, and has XP on it so I'll do some writeups.

Have you tried the 177.72 drivers? What I have been reading in other forums is that some drivers work better than others, I guess you just have to try different drivers to find out the ones that work best for you.
