2012 doomsday
Re: 2012 doomsday
The Sun should increase to a red giant before collapsing on itself into a white dwarf. Our orbit is likely not even large enough to be the diameter of a red giant, so if the Sun becomes a red giant, we will be inside of the Sun.

Re: 2012 doomsday
So like if we are really fast we can roast a few marshmallows in the final minutes? (Some couple of billion years from now, surely by then the human race will have managed to die off).

Re: 2012 doomsday
I have no clue how fast it would expand, but yes we would be charred. At this rate, I am sure that we will come up with a way to inhabit another planet in another solar system.

Re: 2012 doomsday
Even though a few customers I know deserve to be targets probably not.
I always figured that our ultimate demise would come from some act of stupidity on our own part. If nature (Through no fault of our own) or the forces of the cosmos get us first I'd be surprised.
In the end though a post apocalyptic period where the rules and conventions of modern day society are set aside and a rebirth of humanity might serve to extend our reign on this ball of dirt. (I wonder how long politicians would last post apocalypse considering their one true talent seems to be screwing things up)

Re: 2012 doomsday
speaking of that asteroid, im not afraid of that at all, it wouldnt be hard to deflect it. just send a nuke up there and blow it up while its a little away from teh asteroid and it would alter its course

They say heating one side of an astroid is enough to knock it off a collision course. They can do this with a laser
