Post by dicecca112 »

So, I need a pet project, so I decided that size I've been going ever smaller since last Summer, I'm gonna go even smaller

Here is the projected build.

- AC Adapter (brick): AC Power Adapter 80W (PW-AC 80W)

1 x Mtron 7000 16GB SLC SSD SATA DISK

1 x Gigabyte PCI wireless card (works out of the box in Ubuntu Hardy

It will be loaded with Ubuntu 8.04.1

Nah, Mini ITX are about 17cm (6.7") square. Small but not that small.

To get small enough to fit in a 5.25 drive bay you looking at a Nano or Pico ITX board. Nanos are 12cm square and the Pico are 10 x 7.2 cm

I would have gone smaller, but I misread the posting for the SSD, its 3.5 not 2.5.

Just curious but where did you get that slot loading drive? I've been considering doing a similar build as a CarPC in the next few months.

more of a leave the laptop alone so it can fold kinda of thing. Just need the quickness of Ubuntu and I have plenty of storage. Plus quiet, and low power would be nice. Were only looking at 5W for the CPU, and probably another 10-15W for the rest, so this could easily be a sub 25w System.

take a look a the site, they do have specialty boards that are for firewalls

now I just need to find a pci card for wireless that will fit in the case and is support by Ubuntu and most Linux Distros. I'm hoping that most linux distros will install easier on this than the laptop, and I may perhaps go into gentoo

Question guys, would you like to see a building article on this?

I'd love to see the build. I've been considering a CarPC as well, but haven't actually taken the time to map out a system.
Gamer - Thermaltake Element S | PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Black | Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L | Intel E8400 | Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro | 4GB OCZ Reaper Ram | XFX 8800GTX | Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer | Seagate 7200.10 320GB

HTPC / Folder - Palit 9600GT 1GB Sonic | AMD Phenom 9600 | Corsair DHX 4GB | ECS GF8200A | OCZ StealthXStream 500
Thanks to Palit, AMD, Corsair and ECS for sponsoring the 2008 Folding Give-away!

I'm not going to be able to send one this weekend, was just in a minor car accident and no longer have transportation so if Darkstar can send you one instead, that would be great...

Minor accident that left you without a car?

Anyway, this is how hoarders start..."I can't throw it away because I may need it in the future!"

I would also like to see a build of this. A tiny computer is a cool thing.
