I gotta mirror everyone else here and say DFI, except I would go with the Lanparty UT 250 NF4 UltraD, as you get the NF4 chipset, and it also has PCI-Express (2 slots to be exact), so I believe it's SLI ready, a good way to go if you're an immense gamer. As for the NF4 chipset, it's the best way to go since VIA has become a phased out chipset in favor of NF4, or in the case of Intel, the newer Intel chipsets.
The only DFI NF4 board that supports SLI is the SLI-DR, the first rev of the NF4 Ultra did with a mod and SLI bridge, but DFI "fixed" that problem so that people couldn't take advantage of the exploit.
I'm not a huge believer in SLI, and think its overblown. Go with an Ultra and a high end video card, you won't notice much of a difference while playing games, as when you get to a certain point your eyes just can't tell the difference.
To me, SLI is too expensive and more hype and "benchmark envy" than anything else.

well, now that that's established, I need a good recommendation on a mobo. I'm in the process of researching and finding the best board overall for mid-end gaming, fast processing of office applications, something that provides a lot on the options end, and still be relatively cheap. I was thinking about the Asus K8T890, but that is one of several possibilities. I'm not necessarily looking for something that's SLI compatible, just something that can run a high-end graphics card excellently. I'm looking towards the socket 939 package as I like the 1Ghz hypertransport, and also for the fact that when Microsoft gets their 64-bit OS going, I want to be able to upgrade to that. I made my decision on the processor, which is an Athlon 64 3200+, since it can be OC'd, and also because the higher end models are out of my budget right now. Once again, all intelligent advice is most definitely welcome.

Man that's a nice low-end board to have SATA, PCI Express, and a NF4 chipset, not to mention co-ax and SPDIF ports; however, I'm tempted to get a SB Audigy Platinum to go with it, the 8-channel version. As far as speakers go, I'm gonna have to do some more research. Also looking for a decent Corsair dual channel kit, at least 1GB; might decide to go with XMS. I'm kinda torn between XMS and ValueSelect; I know XMS is the shiz, but gonna have to alter my budget slightly to accomodate that. Think it's worth it, capper?
I've worked pretty extensively with both the DFI (which I use every day), and the Chaintech VNF $ Ultra, which I reviewed..... both are very good boards. If you like the chaintech, you may want to invest in a decent active NB chipset cooler, as the passive cooler on that board really restricts the O/C ability . in the end, it is a very good value.
As far as memory. You might want to scour some boards and find some BH-5 memory, or if that fails, look at PQI. There are some decent kits out there that can be had at a really good price.
Or, you could just keep that Kingston Hyper X memory you already have..... not too bad of stuff. You might be able to trade with someone on a forum for some Corsair XMS 3200XLL.

I hope to keep the Kingston RAM,I got them at a bargain. They normally sell for $199 a piece.Last year.capper5016 wrote:As far as memory.
