as soon as I was in the top 10, then the guys with quads and dual cores started, then multiple quads and dual cores, then SMP, now the GPU's... I've got to do something soon or I'm going to be lucky to stay in the top 30dicecca112 wrote:Yeah you GPU bastards, I have never not been in the top 20 since I joined, now its a struggle to stay there

Re: We Broke 200,000 Points Yesterday!
so was pretty disappointed to see my ranking drop from 1-2 to daily(during the contest) to #6 currently. I had XstollieX in my sights but now he is just slowly pulling away. I knew I couldn’t keep my clanmates folding 24/7 so i didn’t expect it to last long.
But I regress - I started thinking about all the 8600GT GPU's and idle time our computers here at work "waste". I know just the 8 people in my immediate department leave their computers on 24/7. I am trying to think of a way I can propose to our IT dept, President, marketing people to install F@H on all these computers (or to even start with like a 10 system pilot or something). I'd say we have apx 200 systems - maybe 25 to 30 have GPU's of 8600's or better.
Has anyone approached a company of this size about doing something like this? My main goal is to get the company folding for our team. I thought about bringing marketing into the mix just for the fact that this could just be another bullet point to help sell the company(as we do much business with hospitals and universities) I don’t know, just kind of brain storming at this point. I am guessing I should have started another thread but I got to typing and just kept on going.
here is the company I work for if it helps anyone give me some ideas http://www.pdspc.com

The best way to go about it is to say that it is free advertising. Let the company use their name and add them to legit reviews folding. Don't even think that they will fold under your name. Most of the problem is security. I know they will really be bent out of shape if they think that security is a issue. Good Luck! Show them that major companys do fold and it's a worth while project.
Re: We Broke 200,000 Points Yesterday!
It would probably make it easier to convince them if they had their own username so the points were visible.
(which is against your original idea for more points for you).

I never really considered having them folding under my name. I was pretty much thinking the company username folding for Legit Reviews.smack323 wrote: My main goal is to get the company folding for our team.

Re: We Broke 200,000 Points Yesterday!
my 9600gso rig rebooted around the same time. Fortunately (or unfortunately) with my sleep apnea, I woke up around 4 and checked on the machines and got it back to going pretty quickly.Sporg wrote:Yeah, my rig with the two 9600's rebooted around 3am. I didn't catch it until the 9am update, but was at work.![]()
ummm...yay on the point thingy
I apologize to everyone that I haven't got the core machine up yet. My rig with the 2 8800GT's is making up for it right now, but these sinus headaches are driving me nuts so I don't want to break something by trying to assemble the machine while my head is in a blur. I'll have it up and kicking by Friday night/Saturday morning for sure.

It may also help to mention that they can use the fact that they fold in a positive light on the company..."we support what folding@home stands for" or "helping in the advanced study of protein folding" just something like that they can add to their mission statement or whatever.

And another reboot last night on both rigs. Changed the automatic update to just notify me, hopefully that takes care of some of the goofiness. Sneaky fakin M$ with their middle-of-the-night updates.

Haha, yeah, stinkin MS. I have auto updating set to notify because the auto reboots are annoying.

That's quite a jump from the last two days, congrats team.
