windows explorer force quitting

Post by skier »

on my laptop i have vista 32 home premium, with 3GB RAM, and a 2GHz CPU, yet my explorer bar keeps locking up and has to quit, it does this periodically, and when it happens, it has to force quit at least 3 times, has anyone heard of this happening, i'm assuming it's not a virus, but i say that without running a virus scan recently(yes, now i will run it) but i was just wondering if anyone has seen this before

Is the hardware known to be stable?

I.e. hard drive checks, CPU stability check, memory tests

i would hope so,(as it is all stock) but i will run tests later today, F@H has been cranking along on it @~65C for a number of days

(and for clarification, by windows explorer bar, i mean the task bar(with the time, icons, start menu..))

That sounds similar to the problem I was having with a dell dimension 2350 desktop except explorer was stopping and starting by itself. I had to do a clean XP install to correct the problem. Then it would run fine for me for several days but the customer would bring it back with the same problem after a few days.

ALL diagnostic (*whew* couldn't think of that word!!!) tests would show nothing wrong Memtest ran fine for 2 days. HDD, Mobo, everything ran with no troubles for 2 days. No hardware problems at all. :-k

Good luck with it
