New spyware POS

Post by unfaithfulsfan »

Anybody seen or hear of Personal AntiSpy? So far everything I've thrown at it hasn't really helped.

It's behavior is similar to Window AV 2008/2009 with all the pop-ups about infections, false downloads, replications etc but nothing is even putting a dent in it so far.

Right now I'm trying SpyBot and Malware Antibytes to see if I get anywhere. After about 20 MAB finally found 1 infected file. Spybot hasn't found anything.

I've researched a bit on Google and found several sites that offer manual fixes but so far I haven't found even one registry key they're talking about much less delete it. So I've decided they're pretty much BS

If anyone has encountered this and cleaned it out, would you please share with me?

Thanks,
Jack

ok, have you tried this?

1. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (mbam-setup.exe) and save it on your Desktop.
http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-An ... 804572.htm

2. After downloading, double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
3. Follow the prompts and install as “default” only
4. Before the installation completes, check on the following prompts:
- Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
5. Click “Finish.” Program will run automatically and you will be prompt to update the program before doing a scan. Please update.
6. Scan your computer thoroughly.
7. When scanning is finished click on the “Show Results”
8. Make sure that all detected threats are marked, click on Remove Selected.
9. Restart your computer.

Didn't he say he'd just tried that?

Wow, This has got to be some nasty piece of work if you and all your tools of the trade cant get it.

sounds just like the garbage I had... fortunately, it didn't damage any files (which are few on this machine), and a windows reinstall was the most simple fix. I even introduced it to my main man Edgar, and that didn't work (again... strongbad anyone?).

After I finished the normal scans with AVG, spybot, and CCleaner... there were no further "infections" though the Security Center had been hijacked and HiJack This couldn't even help me.

Backup, reinstall. That's what I had to do.

damn dan, he did say that, i am going to have read the posts a little more thoroughly.....

spybot and ad aware are good for the generic stuff, but not for something this nasty, and if hijack this cant help you , you might possibly be in new territory there, i'll keep amn eye out but this sounds like a total wipe and reinstall to me.....

Knock on wood, I think the second pass of ComboFix might have knocked it out. I left IE7 running all weekend so I'll see what it's like Monday morning.

As a completely unrelated aside, I'm playing around with Vista ultimate 64 bit on my home rig. I hate to say it but from a setup standpoint, it's pretty sweet. I didn't have to configure anything, not even my router. It found the router & my mother-in-law's PC automatically. I also was able to log into the router with one click. All on a clean install. I really cannot believe I'm saying it! Maybe it's all the pretty lights hypnotizing me? But even my crappy onboard graphics look much sharper and cleaner. I'm very afraid at this point. 8-[

I think I've figured out the main differences between a Windows system and a Linux system...in Windows you start with a nearly perfect setup and struggle to keep it near perfect. In Linux you start with an OK setup and code furiously to make it perfect...where it stays for all of eternity  .

OK so it was a bad knockoff of Yakov Smirnoff...
