AFAIK the Black Screen is only caused by an illegal Microsoft key. So as long as you use a legit copy of Vista and Office you should be ok. I'd recommend an open source office suite like Word Pefect.

i would save money and jsut get home premeum. and the choice is yours, but personally i see no reason to upgarde to Vista, i have 4gb of ram never use more than 2.5-3 tops and thats 2 VM's running. Also, from what i can see, DX10 is nothing special...

I thought Windows 7 was coming out soon? Personally, I'd just wait for that and stick to XP in the meantime.

The screen shots i've seen between DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 show a vast improvement in texture qualities.

Is there a big difference between the Ultimate and Home versions of Vista? I know XP Pro is alot better than the Home edition.

Thank you, I think Home premium has everything I would need.

I don't think I am going to wait for the i7 to release, currently I have about $222 in instant and rebate savings and most expire on 11/16.

Also, after doing a bit of research the i7 will require more expensive components. I used to buy top of the line in the past and it only came back to bite me in the ass.

Sending off the order either tonight or tomorrow morning, Wish me luck!

*EDIT* I never thought to look at the combo deals, Im glad I did. Saving another $40.

Sounds like you will have made some good savings with all the cashbacks going on.

Be sure to post pics when you get round to building, and if you need any help you know where we are :partyman:

Well since you offered, Would you know of any "real" store that would sell some decent sized rubber grommets?

I want to drill a hole in my Antec 900 case near the bottom of my case where the power supply is so I can have some clean cable management. I went to home depot and all they have is tiny ones, I wouldn't even be able to fit the plastic connectors through it.

Not living in the US, I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to begin pointing you to, hopefully someone else will be able to chime in though.

Couple places you might want to try:

Plumbing supply store - the sell all kinds of rubber gaskets and gromits.
Marine supply store - again, they sell all kinds for marine use.

another option is to use the finest split loom you can find and some caulk to make your own. We used to do that quite a bit in the car audio scene.

Thanks, I placed the order and should expect it on Monday.

I've got some time to prep my case which I already have.
