System temp 117 degrees!

so i downloaded speedfan the other day, and it read that my system temp was 117 degrees celsius! My core temps were fine, mid 30's. I figured I did something wrong, bought some arctic silver thermal paste, applied it correctly( i did it wrong the first time), and my core temps dropped 10 degrees each, but the system temp is still 117 degrees. Is that an error, or do I need to check something else out?

Btw im using an e8500 on a 750i chipset in a p182 case

system temp doesnt matter only core temps do

ok... but what is the system temp monitoring? the motherboard?

Try downloading CoreTemp. that will give you a second opinion.

im sure the "system temp" is the motherboard, which has failing temp sensors generally, on some boards it is steady at 125C, 120C, etc. nothing to worry about if it doesnt go up or down off a high temp, its prolly just a misread sensor

Well the other thing you could do is risk burning yourself and touch some of the heatsinks on the motherboard to see if they feel like they are that hot.

yeah, and FYI skier, if we ever get that motherboard workign one of the sensors on the PWM is broke, stuck on 125 C so dont let it scare you

my 750i board has a system temp of 127C, my old Athlon XP board had one also 125C, i'm used to it, it's like manufacturers try to wire the sensors wrong
