What OS is best for Intel I7 to have 6GB
Planning my next build and I want to use XP Pro 32bit, but will it a be able to use 6GB? So I thought I would ask everyone what operating system I should buy. Need it to connect to work and things like that.

need it to connect to work? is your stove on the network? but in all seriousness, get either vista home premium or ultimate 64bit

you only have one choice... 64-bit Vista unless you want Linux of course.

Thanks, That is what I thought. I was worried that some of Natasha's work programs would not work on Vista. Looks like I'll need both rigs up and runing just to make sure. Guess instead of building one more rig, I'll have to build two.

Re: What OS is best for Intel I7 to have 6GB
I was probably more reluctant about the swap from XP to Vista than any other OS swap that I've ever made, but after making the small step (dual boot, keeping XP intact "just in case"), I actually found myself using the Vista side more than the XP side. I have yet to find an app that won't work in Vista, and with UAC disabled (I can't believe I'm about to type this)... I actually enjoy Vista.
There! I said it!
I actually just this week wiped the drive completely of XP and am now Vista only on my gaming rig.

I have had no problems with Vista 64bit. Yes, you get a crash here and there with some games, but it seems that it is mostly the game's fault.
Like DaIceMan said, turn off UAC before you do anything else. Type "msconfig" in the run box and the very last tab gives you the option to turn it off.

If you come across an app that doesn't play well with Vista create an XP VM.

It doesn't bother me. But, what I do like is knowing which programs require admin privileges to function properly and which don't.You like having to click 5 times to do anything?!?
Probably because I am a control freak. I like knowing exactly what every program is doing, how it is doing it, and why it is doing it.
Also, I'm really curious. I like to know "stuff like this" in general.

but it doesnt really tell you much, it would have been ok if it says "program x wants to do y, is this ok?" instead of just "program x wants to do something"

Windows XP Professional x64 is also another option.

The trouble with xp 64 bit is that the 64bit drivers for it are sketchy at best, and so you'll find that vista 64bit is a much better 64bit implementation.
