Ok, need some network guru help here

Ok I have an XP home machine that is having some issues network wise.

The network WILL NOT work at all when windows is fully loaded, is safemode +networking works like a champ.

-Accessing any network options while in full mode, PC locks up.
-from command line can NOT ping from this machine to another, I CAN however ping to this machine from another.

What I have done so far.

-Removed all firewalls/anti virus/spyware blockers
-Removed and reloaded drivers for onboard lan
-disable onboard LAN and installed a PCI NIC (acts the same, so its not he NIC has to be XP)

Really would rather not reinstall the OS, too much custom programs to reinstall.

Do you have system restore on? Try restoring to the day before the problems started.

You tried everything else I would have.

Maybe do a XP install overtop of your system so it doesnt remove any programs..??

Can you post a screenshot of the Processes page of Task Manager?

Also look on the "Services" page of "Computer Management".
As a general rule of thumb, anything listed in there without a Description is not Windows native.
I've found many culprits lurking in there.

Also have a look at the startup keys in the registry.
There are 2 different locations for 32 bit ... 3 for 64 bit.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN
HKCU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN

3rd for 64bit
HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\RUN

There are more, but these are the most common places for startup items.
Since it does fine in Safe Mode, seems most likely that it's something that's getting loaded when doing a full boot.
If it were a true networking problem, it wouldn't work in safe mode either.

You could use HijackThis to search for these things rather than do it manually.
You can also usually find startup keys buy running the "MSCONFIG" utility.

Have you tried msconfig in diagnostic mode to see if there is some service blicking it? because if it works in safe mode then its likely something is loading and causing the problem.

I'll take a look at what you all have posted.

Since my first post in true "sledge hammer" tactics, I tried renewing the ipconfig settings and noticed it always hung on the DNS flush. If I stop the DNS service it works, soon as I start the DNS service back up it stops working.

Checked all the stuff you guys listed, tried Malwarebites, AVG, Adaware, spybot, ect.. found nothing, attempts to repair the DNS service never worked.

Broke down and nuked the PC.

Nuke from orbit is always a good solution. I bet it took less time to nuke it and redo it than the troubleshooting you put in to it.

not really, there was a fair amount of tweaking done to it for the office it was in. Nothing like watching programs re-install and trying to remember what all the tweaks were.

i would recommend a program called auto runs. its from microsoft sysinternals, it shows you what runs at startup and allows you to disable them ETC. even though its to late since you nuked it did you try manually assigning IP and DNS?
