OCZ 8800GTX down for the count!?!

Post by camaroguy1998 »

Well I've been having some slight problems with my OCZ 8800GTX the last week or so.
When they started with the newer WU's I started getting frequent EUE's. After the first couple days they started running without a problem till this morning. Every WU EUE's and after 2-3 EUE's it locks up, also whenever I put the GPU under a load it locks up, sometimes a hard lock sometimes not but everytime. F@H will not run at all, I've tried to run a game and no joy!
I updated to the latest drivers(180.48) and its doing the same thing! The card has a lifetime warranty but they dont make the card anymore so I'm wondering what they will do with it!?!
Anyone have any ideas for me to try before I contact OCZ?

Needless to say my PPD is taking a beating and it's not going to get better for a day or two. :x

The plan at the moment is to replace the 8800GTX with the Palit 9600GT so I can get F@H running again and not let the teams PPD or position suffer too much. I just received the parts from Newegg today for a new build that was supposed to get the Palit 9600GT or my EVGA 9600GSO but, now thats going to have to be put on hold so I can remedy the 8800GTX problems.

Go back to older drivers. I had the same problem with those drivers. Right now I am using drivers 6.14.11.7813 with my XFXGTX280's.

My problem started before I updated the drivers!
I'll try that but now I'm getting no response even under no GPU load.
The mouse will move but nothing else works, I cant activate anything.
I'm starting to wonder if my problem may not be the video card.
Unfortunately I'm at work and cant get my hands on it :x

I was over at the folding@home site http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f ... &start=135 you might want to search there for a answer. Some people are saying that some drivers affect fan speeds others are saying that their computer will freeze up. I know mine did. I sent my card back. Some people are confused as well, they think it might be their power supply. I think it is beta drivers that don't play well with some rigs.

I wish it was just a driver problem :(
Using Nvidias stability test in the control panel I tested all my hardware (saving the GPU for last) and everything passed till I got to the Video Card, as soon as the test started the computer locked up. I tried a few times with no joy. After playing with a couple different drivers it finally got to the point it wouldnt even complete a bootup sequence. So today I switched the 8800 for the new Palit 9600GT 1G Sonic and everything seems to be fine! I initiated a Trouble Ticket with OCZ but I'll have to wait till Monday at the earliest before I hear back from them.

Side Note: The 384 & 511 point WU's are rough on this 9600GT.

I RMA my card as well. Just started folding with the new card a couple of days ago. When I switched to the latest drivers about a month ago I think the drivers messed with my fan speed and nothing I did going back and fourth between drivers helped. I'm sure you'll be happy after you get a new card. Good Luck!

Thanx vbironchef!

I hope OCZ's support service is fairly quick, I have all the parts sitting here for a new dedicated folder with no video card now :(
