Too analytical?

Is being to analytical a problem? People think that it hinders my life since I can't just accept anything I have to analyze it. From my point of view I think just accepting stuff blindly is a horrible way to live. Has anyone else ever been called "too analytical" Or if you haven't have you ever thought someone was? What do you personally think the pros and cons are?
I figured I'd make a random topic to just see how others think.

Yes I think it is a issue. First, I think that one comes across with no feelings and just spiting out information. Second, Who wants to talk to a computer? Have some fun and smoke a joint and relax.

My downfall is not being analytical enough in dealing with most people. Since I'm honest and good-natured at heart, I draw the fatal conclusion that others are also. Therefore, I have gotten royally screwed in the past in different transactions.

So, I suppose in the context of your statement, I'm not analytical enough. On the other hand, there are times that I am way over-analytical and it drives my wife crazy.

So, in my case, when buying a computer from my brother, I should have turned on all analytical circuitry in my brain.

When designing product labels for my wife's home made cinnamon nut rolls, I should not have gotten so carried away on the font selection.......

I feel I am the same way. I will get a call from someone who is really sick and has to change their travel arrangements. Instead of feeling empathetic I go right into "Ok, What can we do to make this change less expensive for you?"

I guess my biggest problem was when I was younger I kind of let people walk over me and was too quiet and nice. I'm still far from rude. But, I always make sure I won't end up in a bind.

I in general believe when people tell you that they're covering for thier own percieved inadequacies. It's similar to when people accuse you of being to intelligent. What exactly does that phrase mean, "to intelligent"? Why is having a desire to increase your knowledge considered such a social handicap in this country?

I know what you mean, sometimes I feel wierd if I use a word in my vocabulary that most people don't know. I have gotten some wierd looks.

I've repsonded pretty harshly at times to people who've commented to me that "I don't have time to memorize all of that stuff". Really? What are you spending your time doing? Drinking beer? Not that a delicious lager isn't something we all enjoy but damnit, learn to F'n read!

I think some people are just more prone to retain something they are interested in. I bore all of my friends to death with things I have recently seen on The Discovery Channel. I find it interesting, so I remember it!

Just be who you are, not who someone else wants you to be...I'm a very analytic person with a very (read: VERY) dry humor. I've pissed more than a few people off making jokes at seemly inappropriate times or by way overthinking things but that's just me, you don't like it that's fine with me...

As for the boring people to death, I catch myself doing it all the time...Oh well, if any of my friends are ever in the cash cab I know who they'll be calling

If you have to make a post, asking if you are too analytical, then yes indeed, you are too analytical.

I've met people who are too analytical. They assume that everything you do or say has some sort of hidden meaning (usually negative). They don't think that someone is capable of doing anything "just because." Oh, wait, maybe I'm getting "analytical" and "cynical" mixed up. There's nothing wrong with being very analytical, as long as you don't feel like you have to analyze everything to death to people who are ready to move on to the next topic. If it interferes with your social life and you are not happy, perhaps you should think about either getting new friends who appreciate your skills, or keeping some thoughts to yourself and blog about it later.

Nah I don't assume it's bad, but I do like to find flaws in a lot of stuff. Like facts people say. Or if the topic changes so does my ADD. The only time people mind is when they claim I always have to be right. The fact is I won't speak up unless I know I'm right. Most people don't mind too much for the most part, but occasionally I can tell it gets to them so I just back off for the time being.

I have been told on several occasions "you think too much" I think it comes from being in engineering for for so long. Setting around 8-12 hours a day thinking "what if, then if, the what about" doesn't take long before you think that way about everything.

Trying not to do it anymore, but like others have said, been burnt when I "winged it".... trying to find the middle ground.

We had a new supervisor come into our shop here at AT&T. After about a month she finally said "damnit, you're all just a bunch of pesimists.". After about 4 minutes of silence I spoke up and said "Mam, everything we see is broken. We're technicians, it's our job to be pesimistic and assume everything is going to break, cause well... to be honest, it will eventually."

I guess that's one of the reasons I'm into PC's and home theater. There's always something to tweak, always something new to work on, keeps my mind busy and focused.
