Yup it's true. The PS3s power dwindles away everyday.... lol. They used to have PS3 farms for folding now if you get 4 9800gx2s you can easily produce more than 20 ps3s all day and use 1/4 the power and cost much less.
Also in a weird turn of events....my ppd DROPPED since hooking the ps3 up..lol...went from over 10k per day to 9k,,,I know it is just coincidence, but it was funny to see ;)

Well do you guys think it is worth the power requirements and wear and tear on the console to leave it run?

Well at least 1 person hates me and 2 want to marry me - LOL
I am REALLY interested in what everyone thinks on this as there are a LOT of folders out there with PS3's either running or not...would be nice to let them and me know what your thoughts are.

While I would like to say that every little helps the team, if you are worried about power use and general wear and tear on the machine, then it's probably not worth leaving it on.

LOL - bastard

I have about 6 2400+ cpus laying around, but no MB's...that could make at least 2 points per day

When the PS3 started into the folding arena, it was scaling the WU's and points like crazy. It was noticed that the PS3 was a very serious contender to deal with. If I'm not mistaken, Standford reduced the points for the PS3 to be a closer leading competitor of these dual cores. Now with Quad cores and the latest graphics cards, I wonder if Standford would re-evaluate to point comparison to bring the PS3 back in line.
If you plan on running it 24/7, have it in a well ventilated room with cool air. Or, mod the box for better cooling. They get really hot.

I hate when they screw with the points for no good reason! If a PS3 can fold 20X as fast as a dual core, then it should get 20X the points. It doesnt make sense to keep punishing people who have fast machines or game consoles by reducing points like that.
Oh well...stuff happens
Mike
I could see it if they actually PAID people to fold, like another site pays you to run programs and leave your computer on 24/7!
