Gentlemen, just wanted to give everyone a little heads up that my points will be taking a bit of a drop this weekend. I've got a couple projects going on that will require the network to be down most of the weekend. As it stands right now,I won't be putting up any points beyond the units underway right now until probably Monday evening.
I've spent the better part of the last week re-working (cleaning/organizing) the computer room, but that hasn't cause any significant down time. Now that this room is done, that brings me getting my network sorted.
My network has been a piece together mess for a long time, and I've gotten to the point I just can't stand it anymore, so as of bedtime tonight, the whole thing will be coming down so I can get started early tomorrow morning. I will be installing my new (to here) network cabinet that I picked up a while ago at work for a great price. With the network cabinet in place, I can finally get my rack mount UPS off the floor, the rack mount lighting (another work pickup), patch panel, and a couple shelves installed. On the shelves will live my dedicated folding machine (specs to come later) as well as my dedicated server.
I have found with my current setup, trying to Fold with 2 8800GT's and maintain data on 3- 640gb hard drives (downloads in, streaming media out) that the machine is just overwhelmed and causing the machine to lockup and reboot at least once a day, causing 12-16 hours Folding downtime a day. With the new setup, things should work a bit better as the current duties of one system will be split to 2 systems. My overall Folding average should be in the 25-26k range, instead of the low 20k range I'm seeing lately.
Anyway... just wanted to let everyone know what was going on so no one would panic when i drop off the map for the next few days. I will continue to check the forums from my Blackberry during the downtime.

Good luck with your re-working of your network. Make sure you cables are neat and tidy
It's good to give your rigs a good cleaning and such. Looking forward to more folding from you on Monday
I bet you are tempted to throw a couple of those new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 in your rigs, anyway, take care and good luck!
P.S. Thanks for the heads up. We are going to be passed up by China pretty soon so I hope you don't run into any problems.

I'd certainly like to have a couple of the GTX295s, but my budget most certainly will not allow at this point.
well, the before is kinda hard to get because of the mess I've made in the room trying to organize other parts of the house. Everything gets piled in the storage/server room and the door closed. I'll see what I can get though.

Actually, it's not going. I got derailed this weekend with other projects and missed connections. A couple of the machines that I had intentions of refitting got torn apart, but haven't made it back together yet (decided to wait for the new case). The guy that was supposed to help with the trailer fell threw because of other requirements so the new cabinet didn't get over here. At this point, even if the cabinet was here, the yard is so wet I wouldn't be able to get a truck to the back door and it's far too heavy to carry.vbironchef wrote:DaIceMan, howsit going?
I'm going to get a couple of the machines Folding again now, but will be but won't be back to full speed until next weekend when I am going to just rent a Ryder/U-Haul truck and get the cabinet here on my own.

Never fails, it's always something that should be a weekend project turns into a real hassle. Go with the flow and take it easy
Life is to short to stress over the small stuff.
