Where is everybody?
Where is everybody?
It must be difficult to start up a new techie forum when all the old boys have cornered all the talent. It was hard for me to find ten interesting threads to reply to in order to qualify for the contest this month...

it's hard to get people to post... Take for example the Monthly Forum Contests... We are giving away $200-$300 pieces of hardware from OCZ from June to August, but only 35 people signed up out of 575 members in June. We sent out a few e-mails to the forum members and posted on the main page... The foundation is laid for a good community... it just needs to be built by some dedicated readers who can help us jump start things by posting new and interesting topics.

Okay where should I start
-The ability to upload icons, people enjoy being unique
-New ranking system, do something that people will get a kick out off, and possible custom ranks for veteran members
-New colour scheme, this one is somewhat dull and makes things seem boring at times
-A private area for folks experienced and hardware and are active posters/contributers to the community
-a mascot
That's jsut a few things, out of lots that could be done, this thread is now official hijacked, and people should post more suggestions!
EDIT: BTW there are some things I should mention that I really like about this forum, the monthly prizes, ability to change your name, the extra smilies, and everybody that actually does post here seems to be cool where as a lot of forums usually have one very unlikeable person.

I agree fully with ya knight, this forum's probably one of the best on the 'Net, as I've seen my share, and most of em are flamers (and in more than one way ); but anyways, I believe there should be a way to give away multiple prizes each month, instead of a set of a product or a single product. If people have things they're needing to get rid of that might be of interest to the other members, then I believe it should be up for grabs (given the items belong to mods or members who are primarily looking at ridding themselves of it (read not for sale). I am glad that you mods/admin(s) are more than eager to hear our opinions about things

I just enabled personal 80x80 Avatar's. Feel free to upload your Avatar from here on out and use it. We originally did not allow them to conserve bandwidth, but on our current server bandwidth is not an issue.
Another forum member asked for the LR logo like the one seen in the mozilla URL header to be used for the site ranks... I really like that idea. If have another idea let me know. I've had a couple people ask to go back to our old ranking images... I can do that too.
As far as updating the entire color scheme it can be done, but all new gfx has to be made and Blisster who does all of our graphics is slammed at work.
If anyone else shows interest in a private registered members forum that can be done also. [H]ard|OCP and many other sites have private member sections, but charge $5 a year for them.. So I guess they are desired.

And you need more mods, as I don't see them around much you and the other admins are probably buisy alot.Apoptosis wrote:I just enabled personal 80x80 Avatar's. nope not working... and heck no we wouldn't charge unless LR grows to 50,000 members like the big boys.. LOL no pop-up or pop under ads... no rydium double underline in-article text ads or any of that. I hate those when I read sites and I'll not put those on mine. The whole point of LR isn't to push marketing BS onto consumers and charge them for services that should be free. Sites like the firing squad are going subscription based later in the year and [H] almost did last year.. should be interesting.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to "fist" members in any forum, though it can be costly to maintain a site. Considering the number of members here, what we have here, with maybe a slight sprucing up, would be excellentApoptosis wrote: The whole point of LR isn't to push marketing BS onto consumers and charge them for services that should be free. Forgot to mention this earlier, it doesn't need to be redesigned, you can download a style here.Apoptosis wrote:As far as updating the entire color scheme it can be done, but all new gfx has to be made and Blisster who does all of our graphics is slammed at work.
