router issues

Here is the situation. I have been using the same settings for the wifi for a while know with no issues. Earlier this week my wifes laptop told me the router was set up for access cards. I could still use the net with mine. Logged into my router checked settings and it was not set up for card access. I then disabled the security settings and re-enabled and my wifes computer was fine. Today my laptop is now telling me that the router is set up for card access. Tried going into the router to reset the settings again and it wont work. I have tried flashing the firmware, master reset. The router won't save any settings for port forwarding or address reservation. Is there something that I am not thinking of or is it time to replace it. Btw I'm currently on my wife's laptop over the wifi while mine wont.

Router is a netgear wgr614 v6
both laptops are Ibooks.

Window updates? Check firewall settings? Don't think you need a new router, just a issue with settings. When was the last time you did a firmware update? Have you unplugged and restarted? Lots of things could cause this, I find the best thing to do is to unplug and wait 5 min. reconnect and start computers again and see what happens.

Sounds like "802.1x authentication" is enabled.

R-Click on the wireless connection (in network connections) then properties.
Goto the "Wireless networks" tab.
Select your wireless network from the list of prefered networks and goto properties.
Goto the "Authentication" tab and untick the box.

This is disabled by default, so it this was the problem someone else is changing it on you.

These are both macs that I am using. Both are running OSX 10.4.11. It is not an issue with the comps, the reason I know this is because the router won't save settings. Just talked to a friend of mine and he said the internal memory was going bad. Anyone else think this is applicable?

I don't anything about Macs. Do you have a modem? If you do, pull the power cord and let it reset. I have cable and that's what I do. Make sure your internet connection is not off line. Sometimes I say what the f*** and find out that my cable is down.

If the network was down I couldn't get to the internet so I know its not the WAN. Still working on 1 wifi connection and both wired

K i couldn't wait. I think im gonna swap out it looks like a better router. The one I got has some pretty poor reviews

I've had 2 Netgear routers and will not buy another!
Wired and wireless both became unreliable, of course after the warranty period.
I've had a Linksys WRT54GS for the last 3 years with no problems what so ever!

Well I picked up the d-link mentioned above at tiger. When I can I try to shop locally in case there is an issue with the item. But thanks for the suggestion camaroguy
