U.S. Scientists Create Zombie Dogs

Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity, but three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

During the procedure blood is replaced with saline solution at a few degrees above zero. The dogs' body temperature drops to only 7C, compared with the usual 37C, inducing a state of hypothermia before death.

Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved. Damaged blood vessels and tissues can then be repaired via surgery. The dogs are brought back to life by returning the blood to their bodies,giving them 100 per cent oxygen and applying electric shocks to restart their hearts.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.

The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.

not quite umbrella, but it's getting there (you resident evil fans know what i'm talking about)

That is some freaky **** man, as I just got done watching the first Resident Evil; man, scientists can't leave well enough alone I tell you. Personally, this is close enough to Umbrella Corp., a little too close for comfort man. Let's just hope we don't have any dogs break loose from the lab and start turning people into "reanimated beings"

I almost watched that movie last night, but I couldn't talk the lady into watching it... Damn good movie for being based off a video game. I think the first one is the best

Damn right, and I liked Apocalypse too, the movie and the soundtrack kicked total ass (read Killswitch Engage

Heheh, speaking of Resident Evil:Apocalypse, it's on Cinemax East from 10 to 11:35 right now. Now how's that coincidence for you? You hear about scientists bringing dogs back from the dead, the first RE was on SciFi, now the second on Cinemax, some creepy stuff man.

It's not really the same thing- in Resident Evil it's highly sci-fi to have a virus that can possibly reanimate the body and control the brain to drive it to basic function.

The dogs are drained of blood until they're dead (saline solution), then given blood again and jumpstarted to life. Blood coagulates upon death so the only way the dog could survive is by having the blood drained out, so that part makes sense.

The only thing I'm wondering about is why animal rights groups aren't onto this biatch for cruel and highly unusual treatment.

But the dogs are no more zombies than people who live after having a pulmonary arrest.

Though, that websites picture of that wolf dog is rather creepy lol. I'm sure that's not the one they used in the lab. Probably some scared out of his pants Christian boy.

sorta like embalming with saline solution, and then pumping blood back in and getting the mechanical portion going. still a rather strange thing to outright come with. Medics would have to work quick on the battlefield to get the process to work, and trauma couldn't be too major (such as major brain trauma).

Personally, I am beginning to believe that our govt today is getting too "big" (read fewer governmental limitations). I understand there are some issues the govt has to be involved in, but things like "eminent domain" being expanded to where small and large businesses alike can seize our housing (housing that some of us own, like myself) only to tear it down and build a business or a mall or a housing development, really makes a cold shiver go down my spine. Sure, the business or corporation may give you fair market value, but in some real estate markets, that's a lot less than what you paid for it. Then you got the activist judiciary, passing items into law from the bench (eminent domain "legalese" being one of them). I wonder where it stops sometimes.

I guess the aqueous Sodium Chloride acts as a preservative (especially for blood still in the brain and other regions where it doesn't drain off, and it prevents red blood cell crenation, or dehydration). Therefore, when they put the blood back in, the blood cells that remained in the brain and other body tissues won't put the animal/person at risk for massive embolytic stroke or heart attack or even myocardial infarct. This is my opinion anyways, there could be other factors I've forgot.

lol, in common language, the "stuff" left in the body after the blood's drained won't dehydrate thanks to the saline injected in the "patient", thus no fatal problems after blood's back in
