GTX295= how much

Post by skier »

hey Nate(or anyone who knows), how much power draw from the wall, or how many amps on the 12v+ rail are needed to power one of these bad boys, on a newegg review someone said they require 46Amps by themselves, and am curious because this + a GSO + all the other components seem to be a bit much..

I know newegg listed my gtx280 at 42amps minimum...just like the retail box did so I imagine newegg specifications(not the review) would be spot on with the 295 being 46 amps

yeah, but as you can tell, my PSU has 60Amps, so would this cover the amount for both a 46Amp video card, and a what, like 20Amp video card(GSO) in addition to powering the rest of the system?

ahh had to read over this again, my apologies about missin that part on the GSO...im no expert on PSU & multi-gpu's honestly..to me, after having gone thru 2 psu's(first one didn't have enough amps) to just power my 280, mathematically speaking on the amps, I wouldn't think that psu would cover both cards along with everything else..I dont know that for sure though.

The 46 AMP rating is meant for the whole system. So you should be fine even with throwing in another GPU.

I wrote about the power consumption requirements here: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/863/2/

The 9600 GSO will ad a bit to the 46 Amp requirement, but no where near 60 Amps. You sound like you're good to go as long as the PSU has all the right PCIe connectors.

ok cool, thanks, and yes it has the right connectors all right, it has 4 PCIe 6+2 connectors :)

i was certainly hoping this would be the best PSU i'd ever need, hope i'm still right for the future
