What do you guys think?

Post by InspectahACE »

I'm having second thoughts on getting the gtx295 due to money constraints and not sure if 295 is worth going over getting another 280 for SLI..as bleeding edge as I want, I'm not rich lol..so my question is..since I'm going to do a dual psu rig in the coming month or so..Do you guys think that I could power 2 of those 280's on the psu(Corsair tx750) in my sig while I use another psu to power the rest? understandably id put one of the drives and a fan or 2 on the 750 to give the gpu's a lil company(as I was told I should do by some of you guys)..if i go for the 295 id have to get another psu since I know one 750 watter wont cut it..and the other psu(seasonic 650) couldnt even hang with the 280 hence why that would power just the rest of the system..i remember a review showed the 280 only used like 290 watts so I would think it would work...reason why i ask is that i didnt like how the 295 would only use up to 896 ram on GTA4..ran into that with my dad's 3870X2(512 out of 1gig..ewww)..didn't enjoy that limit since my 280 can do all 1 gig

I wasn't sure if this would go to the video card section or PSU section so I put it in the general one..sorry if that wasn't cool

If you are having second thoughts about anything, then don't do it! Let time pass and think it over again. If it feels right then, then do it. What's the rush? Times are tough. Time to hold on to your cash! :)

Wasn't the problem with power before that you were planning on getting two 295's for quad SLI?

I think you will be fine running dual 280GTX sli on your current PSU.

yea but then I realized that I'd have to go through hell and back to get 2 295's when i can get another 280 right now without having to get another PSU and still rock just as good..I may just get another psu anyway since I want this (current)rig to be dedicated for folding/tinkering with for school(with my 8800gtx) while the new one which should be up in a month(depending on tax return timing lol) and will be my main one for everyday use along with folding..

GTX280 SLI on a quality 750w is fine.. i don't think they will draw more than 600W of power (in reality it should be less)
