Gamers... Help me PICK A MONITOR (20" / 22" LCD) !!!!

Post by Kingtal0n »

My friend JUST bought a new video card and it DOESNT SUPPORT the 1440x900 Resolution for his 19" Widescreen monitor.

That means, I guess, he needs to buy a monitor with the resolution that is supported by the adapter (video card) RIGHT?! (Is there any way I can add 1440x900 as a resolution to the existing video card?)

the video card supports 1680x1050 so that limits to 20" and 22" monitors in the price range. I have a few picked out on Amazon that fit the bill, but I want your OPINIONS because I have no experience with anything over 19".
I know the 22" Is going to be less quality at 1680 because the pixels are larger than a 20" with the same number of pixels due to size...
But beyond that, its a toss up.

Here are some of my picks...

What video card did he purchase? I dont think I have ever seen a card that will support 16x10 and not 14x9.

i assume he means the monitor is not 144x900(somehow?) because every card i've ever looked at supports "up to 2560 x 1600" it cant be a limitation in the card, even the worst card you can find supports a max of 2048 x 1536, so either the monitor is a strange resolution(as most 19" widescreens are 1440x900) or it just isnt set to the right res/refresh rate

That's my thought too. Or the drivers aren't installed properly or a bad card (as in malfunctioning) Guess we just need to wait for more info

As a thread hijack.

What's the largest LCD MONITOR you can get that is 120hz? I'm not talking about a 42" LCD HDTV but something capable of doing 1920x1200. I was looking at the 245T from Samsung but it makes no mention if it's 120hz capable or not.

I've been having some strange issues with my Dell 2405FPW where the screen kinda clips durring 3D games from time to time and have wondered if this was a refresh related issue.

Acer makes a 19" monitor that supports 1680x1050.

If you don't mind buying used, you can make an offer on this 20.1 Viewsonic over at Tom's:

I have this monitor, and it looks great. You could find much cheaper monitors online now, 20 and 21 inch screens have come way down in price.
