The UPS Truck Came Today!
Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
You should look into getting a better cpu cooler if you plan on overclocking. The stock Intel cooler won't allow you to overclock that much.
Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
Ouch on those temps

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.
Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
I've built up a core i7 rig for a friend and am seeing similar load temps (low 80's)
I've thrown in an OCZ Gladiator Max CPU cooler (it's quite beefy
), and am still seeing load temps in the mid 60's!!
If I had a core i7, I'd have to get a whole new watercooling setup for it.

Are you saying that because of the water block you're using? Or are you saying your double radiator isn't big enough to handle the thermal load?DMB2000uk wrote:

Water, water, water. Its always about water with you guys! (jk)
I definitely need a new cooler but water still scares me a bit. I read a review http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/ ... t/pg5.html of a Thermaltake passive cooler that made me think twice.
I'm currently running in C.I.A 2 "racing" mode which auto adjusts up to 3.2 under full load but still eventually would get me into the mid 80s under 100% loading but under normal use (2 hrs of CoD WaW) the max temps were 60, 59, 59, 56 respectively which is livable.
I'll probably run it like this for a few weeks to let everything settle then look at some air coolers or maybe some self contained water kits. My overclocking needs are modest (I'd be fine with 3.4-3.6) and mid 60s temps don't bother me. I need quiet and low maintenance.
Theres room at the top of the case for a 2x120mm mount for a rad but I'm not sure even how to begin.

Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
Rabbit,
I was TOTALLY scared of water cooling. Terrified. Until I realized that the only thing keeping me from pursuing it was my own fear of the unknown. In the early (late 90's) days of water cooling I could totally understand your aprehension but with companies like Swiftech and Koolance those fears are totally gone.
Water cooling is mostly a matter of patience durring the build phase. I spend about a month building my new PC, mostly due to work and the custom mods I made to the case. Martin, Dan, and Bio helped me design the system. The actual assembly of the system took about 4 hours with help from Bio.
The Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima has pretty much everything you'd possibly need to start water cooling. You might be able to get the parts cheaper individually. I ended up doing that as I wanted a 3x120mm rad instead of the dual. They also wern't offering the kid with the Apogee GTZ at the time. It's pricey up front but I considered it an investment. I don't think I'm going to need anything bigger than a tripple rad going forward and I have plenty of room to add components (which for me will be a set of GPU waterblocks next).
Start a thread about building a water cooling rig and we'll give ya some advice, guidance, and maybe a little inspiration.

Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
I was thinking of getting the same ram for my upcoming core i7 build.

Wow! Wonder if I'd have to replace my GTZ if I went i7. I was hoping to avoid that.
Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
I'm only on the storm block, which was made for single core CPUs really, it just about copes with a dual core, but I fear a quad would be too much for it.

Re: The UPS Truck Came Today!
The GTZ works fine for the i7, but you'll need to get a new mounting bracket though, and I think you have more than enough radiator to handle the heat.Skippman wrote:DMB2000uk wrote:BothSkippman wrote:Are you saying that because of the water block you're using?
