AMD Phenom II Breaks Another Overclocking World Record

Post by Apoptosis »

FYI -- AMD’s Phenom II processors just added another overclocking world record, this time with a 3DMark06 score of 35,698.
Achieved with AMD’s “Dragon” platform technology featuring Phenom II processors with DDR3 support and ATI Radeon HD 4800 series graphics, the new video documenting the record titled “FINLAND IS COLD” is the sequel to the acclaimed "The Experiment" where Team Finland set the 3DMark05 World Record in January 2009. In fact, Team Finland achieved these results using Liquid Nitrogen and air cooled graphics which leaves plenty of room for improvement by others in the overclocking community.

This new record helps demonstrate the performance capability of AMD’s latest platform technology.

it's good to see this but I think unofrtunately, for avg user and ocers, intel still has a slightly better advantage with teh core i7. At least AMD is not too far behind now.

Actually I'd say that for people still attached to DDR2, the Phenom II x3 or x4 chips have great potential short-step-upgrade that doesn't factor in the wad of cash DDR3 is costing right now.
I find myself in that category lol

I'm waiting on the AM3 boards to come out first, I might as well go big, right? :D
*Edit, assuming there are any AM3 boards that support DDR2 AND DDR3 for slow adapters like me...

DDR2 Support is why I would choose the Phenom II.
I have 3 rigs with 4G's each running XP 32bit so I can pull 1G from each and not really effect performance enough to matter!

Nate, that's a great find for the video. After it played, the list showed another video on how they set everything up. VERY COOL!
