is this a bug with the i7
is this a bug with the i7
Picked up an I7 920 today and both coretemp (where I first noticed it) and cpuz show me a multiplier of 21 and a freq of 2786. Not that this is a bad thing just wonder if its right

Not sure about the QPI but looks like your multi goes by the bus speed

Re: is this a bug with the i7
Yeah but the i7 multi is a max of 20 or so I thought. I have done no overclocking on this due to the fact that my water block hasn't come yet and it is setup with only the stock cooler. Stock frequency is 2.66 mine is showing ~2.8

Re: is this a bug with the i7
weird...my multi is at 20..but like you said..not a bad thing
..i did notice that your QPI is about 800+ mhz lower than mine stock tho (in that pic)..that and cpu-z shows 8 threads on mine and only 4 on yours....

Re: is this a bug with the i7
I have the hyperthreading disabled. I have heard it causes alot of heat so until I get the waterblock for it I disabled it. Hence the 4 cores instead of 8. As for the qpi I haven't touched it, unless its affected by the hyperthreading.
Re: is this a bug with the i7
Go into the BIOS and find the "Turbo" setting and turn it off. The Turbo is giving you a mild OC with out you touching it.

Re: is this a bug with the i7
Unless the BIOS is programmed to shut it off at 70, then it shouldn't, I've had a core i7 920 at ~83oC on every core (stock with stock cooling) and it didn't shut down on me.

Thats what I thought too but I couldnt find it in the bios..tho i've been either tired or "out of it" when i last checked so ill check after posting this.DMB2000uk wrote:Unless the BIOS is programmed to shut it off at 70, then it shouldn't, I've had a core i7 920 at ~83oC on every core (stock with stock cooling) and it didn't shut down on me.

Re: is this a bug with the i7
Oddly even after reading the motherboard manual I didn't see anything about why or if it was set up to shut down at 70..I know the bios shows the option of either showin the temp or ignoring it(doesnt say it ignores the shut down part)..thats all i found..even CoreTemp and RealTemp give readings that are all wacked out and I dont know which one to believe since the bios reports around 56C when i just checked..this is all with stock cooling and and as warm as it feels its only 55 outside here...i feel like i jacked this thread so i apologize if that feeling is goin around..was not intentional

Re: is this a bug with the i7
The temps that you're seeing in CoreTemp and RealTemp are for each core and the temp in the system bios is reporting from the hardware monitoring chip on the mother board for the overall cpu. Each individual core will run hotter than what the bios reports.
