Is there some sort of trade restriction between the US and Venezeula for electronics components? I know Chavez isn't our biggest fan but I didn't think it'd gotten that bad.

Major_A, I'll try to conduct those tests this weekend, since now I'm it's too prohibitive for me.

hnzw_rui, I can't bump up not even $0,0001, since the government officials would detect the limit breakthrough and would cancel the transaction as well as impose a penalty.

And Skippman, it's very complicated to explain this. Besides the many trade restrictions between US and Venezuela because of venezuelan government's blatant stupidity, we are in a foreign exchange control situation, meaning that the access to foreign currency is just too limited. Each Venezuelan has a limit of $400 a year to spend in Internet transactions such as Amazon, and I already had spent $346, leaving me with $54. But in 2007 this limit was set to $3000, and that was the way I could buy my whole actual machine.. I'm so happy I took advantage of a greater limit before it was throttled down to $400..

..I think I'm the only Venezuelan with a system able to score around 15,000 at 3dMarks06

Seems a heck of a way to run a county. My condolances for the restrictions. I'm sure it's not helping anyone.

Got any friends that wont be using their USD limit? ;)

Otherwise i would try and forget about raid. If it helps, the practical benefits of RAID don't seem to be that noticable. Levels might load a couple of seconds faster in games, but it really is just a couple, and it doesn't give you any better FPS, and even games that stream from the harddrive while playing are optimised for much slower HDDs, so don't benefit a whole lot either.

Windows boot up isn't sped up by much at all either, as the time you might save with the extra drive speed is lost by the BIOS having to initialise the RAID controller and array.

The only real benefit I have noticed is that applications seem to install quicker.

Well that's a first natural thought, but people here are way too over zealous with their allowed foreign currency. Besides that, this is not automatically granted to every Venezuelan citizen, each one must complete a 2 month procedure to obtain this limit, which just makes it harder to take someone else's limit.

Well, RAID 0 does not provide much of a performance, I wouldn't lose too much. But I will buy this 250 GB hard drive for $50 (considering that according to hnzw_rui, RAID 0 is still possible with HDD of different storage sizes) and preserve my files with 4 dual layer DVDs. This way I'm in budget and got RAID 0, achieving both of my goals, which wouldn't have been possible without the help of you all.

So thanks a lot!
