jump starting safe?

is it safe to let a jump started PSU stay on for a long period of time? logic says sure, but i don't know if that magical green and black pin combo hurt the PSU.

for background- my multitouch table is using a pair of 25-Led strings which need a 12v source(naturally the FIRST thing that came to mind was a Power supplies 12v rail) but we don't want to use a whole computer just to power the leds, so i want to take the PSU out and just use it jumped(and also the PSU is from an old-school apple G3(which is the strangest PC i've ever seen in my life) which randomly decides that it doesn't want to work) to power the IR LED's

Provided that the 12v load will be a couple of amps or more, and as long as you put some load on the 3.3v and 5v rails too, then there won't be any problem.

If you haven't got anything that's using those rails (or your 12v load isn't enough), then just rig up some resistor plug in mod to use an amp or two on each rail.

case fans generally use..12v or 5v right? what uses 3.3?

Guaranteed not to blow up on you, runs fan-less, and you can get a mesh grill that will cover it to prevent you from sticking a finger in there.

hmm, that could possibly, work, but we don't have time to wait for it, we want it up and running asap.

btw, the PSU is 200w, with 12v(7.8A), 5v(20A), 3.3v(20A)

just plug a radial ressitor into one of teh 3.3 volt lines...

I ran a jump started PSU hooked up to a 760i kit for two days on a bench to get the air out of the system before I put it in the case... ok I forgot about it ... but it worked fine and there is nothing wrong with the PSU
