Hello,
hope you are all well.
I was wandering If I could get your help?
I read through this thread and I don't really get the problem. can some one tell me what the issue is in very dumb terms?
I am currently in the middle of a computer build; (3D Artist Work Station). I am able to get the ASUS P6T Deluxe from a vendor;they don't stock V2.
I have x2 WD Raptor 10K/rpm SATA HDD's, on which I am going to install Vista x64. I would like to setup RAID 0.
When I and if get the ASUS P6T Deluxe, can and or should I plug my SATA HDD's to the SAS ports? is there any advantage in connecting SATA to SAS. Will i be able to set up RAID 0 using the SAS ports?

Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe & SAS
I'm very new and lucked into getting this Motherboard and ONE SAS drive?
Can you connect just one SAS drive or do you have to raid it?
I connected it and tried to load the drivers but it still does not see it?
The drive I want to connect is a Fujitsu MBA3300RC
Is my only option is to buy another one and raid 1 them?

Don't know of any reason why you'd hook them to the SAS ports.wolfman wrote:When I and if get the ASUS P6T Deluxe, can and or should I plug my SATA HDD's to the SAS ports? is there any advantage in connecting SATA to SAS. Will i be able to set up RAID 0 using the SAS ports?
I'm running Raptors in RAID 0 on the SATA ports.
Yes you can run just one SAS drive.k4kman wrote:Can you connect just one SAS drive or do you have to raid it?
I have only one drive hooked to the SAS controller.
No problems.
Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe & SAS
Well I have just one and wanted to load the OS on it but for some reason on install even after loading drivers it does not see it?

Make sure that in the BIOS, the SAS controller is not set to RAID. (Or ACHI if that's in there as an option.)k4kman wrote:Well I have just one and wanted to load the OS on it but for some reason on install even after loading drivers it does not see it?

It has been so long since I poked around in the BIOS, I don't even remember for sure what's in there.

I went in a few days ago to update to the latest version, and the flash utility won't even launch.
I decided to hell with it and left it like it is.
This was my first ASUS board, and it will be my last.

This post post by rustynissan worked for me to get the drives on SAS recognized.I'm very new and lucked into getting this Motherboard and ONE SAS drive?

I have struggled with this issue for a day now and I finally got it to WORK! (Only one day, I know...) Just thought I'd post what worked for me and maybe clear some stuff up.
The KEY to getting your SAS HDD to work as your boot drive (initial install) is...
USE THE DRIVER IN THE AMD64 FOLDER!!!
("but I don't have an AMD...")
The beauty is that you don't have to find it or slipstream it or anything. I believe all the BIOS default settings are sufficient, just install your SAS HDD (I had no other HDDs attached). Pop in the Vista install DVD, and when it asks you where to install Vista, there will not be any HDDs listed. Fear not! Simply click on "Install Driver" or whatever it says. Then, you remove the Vista DVD, insert the DVD that came with your ASUS mobo, and it should find the drivers for the Marvell SAS controller. After that, it installs the driver. It will whine about how much it misses the Vista install DVD at some point, so just swap the ASUS DVD for the Vista one and it installs the rest of the way.
Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.
Re: ASUS P6T Deluxe & SAS
Hello all.
I had planned to do the following:
6x 1.5TB barracuda in raid5 on the ICHR10
1x ssd 80gb intel on the SAS
1x plextor bd 920 on the SAS -- at least it sadly seems, that it wont even register it - might need to use the eSATA ports for this *sigh*
Anyone have any advice pertaining to getting a cd/dvd/bd drive to work as a bootable unit on the Marvell SAS on the P6T6 ?
(guessing the setup of the raid will still be nightmarish, like others have posted about doing each step, then reset then do another step, as apparantly the MB cannot understand more than 1 step at a time :S)
Thanks for inputs.
Best regards : eskildsen
