Lifting a Geo Tracker and Putting 35x12.50x15 Super Swampers

Well... My friend that owns his own shop was working on Geo Tracker... The guy wanted a lift kit installed, a set of 33x12.50x15 Super Swamper Boggers installed, have all the bumpers removed and then cut out the body so the tires don't rub..

Once the tracker was off the lift you looked pretty sweet... Boggers are great tires for those that don't off road and here is a closer look...

My buddy test drove the tracker next.... and well these few photos show what happened during the next 10 minutes...

He ended up breaking something in the front end while dumping the clutch in reverse, but oh well it happens... A quick pull with the bobcat and it is back out and will be fixed tomorrow... Fun times!

That's friggin insane. Why waste the money on a truck like that? So many of the drive train parts aren't strong enough for the torque needed for those tire. He will be replacing stuff all the time. Well to each their own! It is pretty unique though.
On a side note your buddy have any jeep engines layin around? Mine has a hole in the crankcase

$1000 for the tracker... $600 for the boggers... $200 for the lift kit... total investment $1800, which is cheap for a mud truck... Cheap compared to the $50,000 bobcat pulling it out ;)

What size jeep motor do you need? I have a bunch of 258 I-6 heads, but my buddy whose house these pictures are has some 4.0L TJ motors and a 1997 TJ with blown spider gears and a bad water pump for sale for $3500.

Been trying to do a straight swap with the 4 cyl 2.5l. I haven't had alot of luck finding one around here. I would do a 6 cyl if I can find a good price on a engine and trans. The ax-5 trans won't handle a 6cyl engine.

What shop does your buddy run? I've been looking for fellow Jeepers in the STL area to get advice from on my buildup of the JK. I've been talking to a few people on MWJT and the JK Forum. My knowledge of mechanics is no where near as great as I'd like it to be and I'd love to have more advice/experience to draw on.

no you really need an AX-15... they will handle up to small V-8's... I swapped my BA-10 for an AX-15 and have only blown it up once, which is good for me... Rebuilt it and it's been fine since with a fully built motor in front of it.

I see stuff like this when I go to my friends (putting a full cage in a 2009 Corvette Z06 with a Lingenfelter build engine and full spray... WHP - private, but you'll see the car on pinks in 2009:

You got places like Dobbs, then you got the private shops that do the real work.

Ok then, must be too cool to do work for a scrub like me then. I got that same lecture when I tried to find someone to fix the rust on my spec Miata. I didn't want anyone to bondo-fill and paint it, I wanted real metal work but apparently anyone who does that anymore is either to good to work on my car, or to busy to be bothered.

I'll just sun-tree it and figure out how to do my own 2" lift. I've been to 1st Capitol a couple times but they seemed like jerks. I've heard Axel Boy does great work but to my understanding he's a power train only guy and doesn't work on suspensions at all.

nah, man... just saying they all do good work... most people won't take stuff to a private shop.

I can get a lift put a coil spring or spacer lift on your JK for between $200-$300... just called and it would need to be there for a day. As for body work... I know guys that will do body work on anything, but you pay three prices...

1) you aren't paying enough and will get junk back
2) you are paying regular rates and get regular quality
3) you paid too much and it gets done show quality

First I have to tackle some electrical issues. Particularly installing a secondard fuse box, some relays, a switch panel, and some winshield lights. Why are Black Magic's SO PRETTY!?!

Thinking of Jeeps here is a picture of a cracked NP231 Transfer Case that came out of a Wrangler of a lady that wanted it fixed... I swapped housings with a new one and I got to keep the old internals... Sitting next to that is a Saturn tranny from another swap I did... Behind that is a 285 cylinder head and aluminum valve cover that is a backup to mine if I ever crack or blow my motor up for a 4th time. I love computers, but cars are my hobby.

I've had a dozen sets of BFG's and never had any problems with one of them... I suggest them 100%

Yeah, that's the kit I'm looking at. From my research I'll also need an extended rear swaybar mount as the kit calls for the rear to be swapped to the front and I'll need a longer one for the rear. I'll also need a set of taller stop bumps front and rear.

I'd like to do the work myself w/ someones help. I want to learn more about the mechanics of my vehicles. For to long I've let people do the "tricky" bits for me and not gotten my hands dirty. I need to change that. A suspension lift shouldn't be to hard to put on if I rent a set of coil clamps.

nope... Get the clamps and I'll sit and watch you do them over here if you want... I don't have a lift like they do, but it's easy enough.
