Hi I am planing to start buying parts for a new build in 2 months for my son and I was thinking of trying Linux to see what it is like so I google it and I never knew there was so many different ones, so which one would I go with???? I was looking at Debian they say they are more universal than the others but I am still scratching my head. Can you guys help on how to choose linux that is right for me and suggest some?
Ubuntu. Definitely the best one to test the waters with simply for the fact that the community is HUGE. Heck, it's still my daily driver OS even after a few years of linux use.
There are a lot of different distros but a lot of them are 'boutique' and cater to one specific type of geek or require a baseline knowledge of linux to setup and you may find yourself drawn to one after awhile but ubuntu is a great starting place.
1 bottle of scotch + 1 EEE PC + 1 copy of eeebuntu = a hangover and a perfectly configured linux powered netbook.
OK at least one of those 2 things. Probably the former. But really, what have you got to lose? It's not like you can screw anything up so bad a reinstall won't fix.
