Ati Radeon 4650 driver problem on XP

Post by danny_44 »

Hello ,
I have an Acer laptop which has an ati radeon 4650 graphic card . I installed XP pro . But I am having problems on installing driver for graphic card. I am sure that i downloaded the appropriate driver from ati ' s site(for XP and 4600 series),tried to install but it says "setup did not find a driver compatible with your system or operating system ". I also tried to install manually by browsing the inf file on device manager . But it could not find any driver. Does anyone have any idea about this problem ?
Thanks already.

Since you have a laptop...
A) Typically you need to get the driver from the manufacturer's website for it to work. I'm assuming your laptop came preloaded with Vista?
B) Since it's an ATi driver on XP do you have .Net 2.0 installed?
C) If both A and B are both checked see if Omega is still modifying drivers.

Haven't tried it but maybe it works. If it doesn't it then no harm no foul.

What is the exact model of the Acer you own? Maybe we can find a different laptop with the same size screen, video card and chipsets.

While I'm looking for this notebook have you tried to see if the drivers are available on Windows Update?

*EDIT*
I know this picture shows Vista but it also doesn't mention ATi anywhere in the support section. I'm not tring to be a jerk but are you 100% sure that you have a HD4650?

For its and grins run GPU-Z and confirm that you do infact have a HD4650.

I downloaded the quick start manual for that laptop and did notice that some do have the HD 4650. So after a little more research I found this.

+ ATI Radeon HD 4650 series support
+ ATI HD 4830 Series support
:Updated:
* DNA-ATi 7.11 OpenGL option not installing correctly
* DNA-ATi Installer
* Tweak base
* DeviceID Tool
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 Support
* Catalyst AI setting forced to Advanced
* Readme and driver documentation
* Uninstall process (registry tweaks)
* ATI Radeon HD 4850 Support
* ATI Radeon HD 4670 Support
* Radeon X1800 GTO Support
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 Support
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 Support
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series Support

:Removed // Deleted:
- SouthBridge drivers (please download from www.ati.com if needed)
- AVIVO encoder (please download from www.ati.com if needed)
- Add-Ons // Extras section. 1 packege download again

Known Issues:
During the uninstall process a small error pop-up might show. To slove this:
1. during the uninstall routine, click ok to close the error message and the process completes.
2. if after uninstalling upon reboot and you get a blank screen or BSOD on startup when the system restarts:
restart the PC (press the reset button if necessary but wait until the HDD is idle)
press F8 to enter the windows boot options menu
select 'Enable VGA mode'
install the DNA driver package using one of the options 2-5 depending on your requirements.

NOTE:
Decreased package size to 42.6 MB
(the DNA-ATi XP 8.12 x32v2 size was 44.1 MB)
this is because of the 1 package design

DEVICE SUPPORT:
Catalyst 9.2 XP x32 DeviceID's 1011
DNA-ATi 9.2 XP x32 DeviceID's 1127

I solved the problem .
I was mistaken on manually installing the driver . I will write the solution in case somebody has the same problem .
Here is the solution ;

*Exract the driver to any folder(While the driver wanted to be installed it is extracted to X:/Ati folder.)
*Go to Device manager.
*find vga device and click update driver
*click reload from a list or location
*on next page click "dont search." hit next.
*on next page click "i have a disket"
*then find the inf file browsing something like X:/Ati/support/9.4.ee.ccc/driver/driver/xp_inf/cx_123123.inf/ and click ok
*from listed drivers select ATI Radeon 4650
*finish and enjoy

Thanks brother for your great helps.
Regards

where can i find the proper driver?

i have exactly your problem with my Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

Ati/Amd's page tells me to get the driver on my Laptop manufacturers homepage where I can only find drivers for vista...

Thanks in advance! 8-[

I think that recently ATi added mobile support to the regular Catalyst Suite. Download the latest version off of ATi's website. If they complain that you don't have a compatible card then you'll have see what drivers are available on the laptop manufacturer's website.
