An 8.9" Netbook has 62% more screen area than a 7" Netbook

Post by Apoptosis »

A friend and I were talking about how 7" netbooks aren't that good because the screen size is so small and that for an extra $40-$50 that the 8.9" model is well worth it. After talking about it we did some basic math...

7 " screen = 6.1" x 3.4" = 20.94 Sq. In.
8.9"screen = 7.8" x 4.4" = 33.87 Sq. In.

Roughly a 62% increase in screen area by going from a 7" LCD to an 8.9" LCD!

1280x800 feels cramped to me, I'd not be able to survive on a netbook :P

Huh? 1280x800 is cramped? I still have a 15" monitor that's only 1024x768. What size screen notebook do you have? 17"?

I've just got a 13" 1280x800, but my laptop before was 15" 1600x1200 (Though I've hardly used it the last couple of years), and my desktop is 1880x1050.

So you can see why I think it's a bit limited :P

Full time, yes but just accessing the web and email and stuff like that while traveling - good enough for me.

Desktop monitors don't count. They actually have the screen real estate to support high resolutions. :P

For a 9" screen, though, I think 1280x800 is pretty good.

Ok for a 13" laptop, 1280X800 is a bit cramped. The words and everything are too small for my liking. I like 15.4" screens with the 1280X800 screen resolution. As for LCD monitors, I'm using 1280X1024 on a 17" Sharp. I like the text size and everything. However, 1280X1024 on a 19" monitor, the text size and stuff is just too big for my liking.

@Apop. What about a 10" netbook?
