bad benchmarks.....I think

Post by hercules71185 »

I got my 4870 yesterday and had a few problems and yet to find out if it's card or motherboard. Well today maybe the icing on the cake... I've did a few benchmarks including 3dmark06 and the results seemed awesome! VERY good in my opinion. Until I noticed that graph at the top, saying your system <<<<<< similar systems>>>>>> I was the very slowest benchmark with my set up. My scores are 13866 for the 3dmark06. Also I have no idea what's going on in the loading screens the screen is really blurry. What's going on....?

3dmark06 relies on the cpu for a good portion of the score. When overclocking and running benchmarks the gpu scores will go up with out clocking the gfx card anymore. 3dvantage doesn't seem to have the same reliance on the cpu speed for the gpu scores. Ill post the different scores up in a few minutes with my I7 rig. One will be oc'd one won't take a look at the gpu scores.

take a look at the sm2.0 and the hdr/sm3.0 scores.

Looking at the scores above you can see that the bump in the cpu speed brought the graphics cards up quite a bit. None of the settings on my graphics cards where adjusted (aside from the speed of the fan). If I had to guess, your cpu is bottlenecking your card.

ok that makes sense I just figured it would be a GPU dependent program for the most part.

STILL waiting for my new motherboard to overclock a bit more. But, as of now, I looked up a combo with the e5200 and the 4870 and the benchmarks are about the same... :-(. Only good news out of it is when it's overclocked. Like the one I saw where the guy had it at 4.0GHz the benchmark score went from 11k stock to 18k... Pretty weird for a GPU program to be so CPU dependent...

well i'm sure the 4870 isnt being taken advantage of at all with a slower/weaker CPU, so once the processor has more raw power, it balances out the system more

I got it today, I can only go up to 3.25 because of heat. I threw it up to 3.85 at 1.45vcore and it was stable and I shut it off after 30 seconds of occt. It got to 75C and I was like SHUT OFF!! I'll have a new cooler friday or saturday. Water maybe.

The scores are rising, I ran 3dMark with the stock cooler @ 60C max.

Yes, 3dmark is a joke. 06 is a CPU benchmark and Vantage is a physics benchmark. GPU? Wassat?

I guess nothing beats actual game benchmarks huh. I got my score up to 16k so it's better I was just thrown off that the score was so low compared to the other pcs in the type.
