Good power supply?

Post by Zeratul »

Im looking for a good yet cheap PSU for my comp. Whats a good amount of money to spend on PSU? And which brands are the best? I have a 420 Watt PSU but Ive been told my its not good enough for my AMD 3800+, 2 Gig ram and Radeon 9800 Pro. I havent run into any problems yet but I want to have a good PSU when I upgrade my video card.

Fortron Blue Storm is good, most Antecs are good, OCZs are good, Fortron's in general are good.

The blue storm can be had for under 85$

You definitely don't want to go out and just buy the cheapest 500W you can find.

Those are just a couple samples I'd consider, from some brands I'd recommend

Enermax is a good brand. I have a EG651P-VE FM (550 Watts). It's powering an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, Leadtek 6800GT videocard, and 12 hard drives. It runs like a champ for me.

FSP Group (Fortron) would give best bang for buck!

They are a little noisy.. Antec and OCZ psu's are noisy too, except antec's neopower series (quietest)..

If you air cool your pc then the psu noise won't matter too much..

I think the Akasa POWERPLUS 650W V1 (version 1) is very nice.
Little people know Akasa as a PSU maker so its got little attention from most people, but the reviews ive seen are all very positive :D
