Which is a better CPU?

Post by klite »

Which CPU is better

1. 2.1GHz AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core RM-72
2. 2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core T4200

I have been told that an intel chip is normally faster than a comparable AMD chip.

Thanks for your help

just from the few screenshots I could find for PCmark05 and superpi, both are synthetic tests so I am not 100% sure if it translates to real world. But, the intel appears to be significantly stronger. As for AMD vs Intel. It's a hard game to guess. Intel has been KILLING AMD in the high end stuff. But, AMD knows this so they drop their prices to beat them in the price range. Then again intel is trying to run them out of business so they are doing the same. So it really depends on who is cutting prices at what time.

The CPU in laptops isn't the only thing you should be looking at. What other hardware do they have? Video card, ram and ram speed, how about screens if you look at them side by side who's do you like more. And size. Size is the biggest thing if you ask me, Battery life is very important to most. See I travel A LOT 15 hours a week usually. So when I am out working and need to imput information into my flash drive for work. The best thing for me was the netbook, I can hide it in tiny glove box of my TA when I need to.

Since they are both laptop CPUs I would say go with the Intel. It will likely be faster but everything I've ever read about Intel mobile CPUs far exceed AMD's offerings in terms of power draw. If you want your battery to last longer go with the Intel.

Maybe we should start being biased toward AMD. I mean if we keep choosing the better priced and better performer intel is going to keep killing them until they are out of business. When it's just Intel the CPUs will not evolve and prices will shoot up.... lol

I've owned more AMD CPUs over the years than Intel. When someone asks me to price them a PC I only look at AMD. It's cheaper and they would never notice the difference between Intel and AMD. I just built my friend a new PC last month, Phenom II X3 720, 790FX chipset and a HD 3850. I'd say that's an all AMD build.

I'd go with the Intel processor, personally.
