As some of you know I need a new computer and I was asking results from herc and a few others. Well..........
Blitzguy needs some new computer stuff for college (before I go poor).
What I want:
AMD or Intel CPU either dual-core or quad-core (AMD fan but times have changed)
Motherboard: DDR3 is expensive and I know nothing about but if i can keep this rig under 700 sure.
Video card:Nvidia is a go, I don't like ATI. I was thinking about getting a XFX 260 Black edition? I heard SLI is not
RAM: I have no Idea where to go.
HDD:probably will go with 500gig or up
PSU: how much will it take to power this monster
OS:64-bit but I don't know where to turn with this vista or xp or what
Thanks for looking HELP!!!!!!!!

Do not get a Dual Core. For a few more pesos you can get a Quad Core and you'll be much more satisfied with it. Trust me on that one.

Why not get a dual, it depends on what he does. A dual works fine. There is nothing I can't max out with it, everything runs smooth and have no problems with my $70 guy. If you game, saving $80 on a processor and putting it elsewhere is the smartest thing you can do.Tim Burton wrote:Do not get a Dual Core. What's your budget? That might help determine dual vs quad and other stuff as well.

I know you said no to ATi but I think it's the better option...

The only thing I didn't include was an operating system.

lol if you gave me $700 and told me what you wanted it to do, it would happen. I'm on a $400 PC that crushes Crysis. I finally played Crysis all the way through since I could actually play it on my new pc. I played Crysis @ 1680x1050 8xaa and DX10 hack on xp. Right now I've just started Crysis Warhead like an hour or so into it, and it's on enthusiast with 4xaa and not a chug in the world.
If I worked with media more and was building something in that range. I'd put a decent quad, with good cooling.
IF you did this
Get a decent mobo for $65 refurbished has always been my friend.
Wolfdale dual core E7200 series $95
GOOD air cooling $40 I got a butterfly looking one that works really good for that price.
GTX 280 $240
and a nice 600+watt psu with good reviews and test results $70
4GB DDR2 OCZ Corsair, any brand should be about $50 max
If you need a DVD tray it's 30
Media reader 15
Nice case for $45
You still have $50 to spend elsewhere.
If you want more of a video PC
Replace the e7200 with a q9550 (spend 150)
and the GTX 280 with a 9800gt (Save 140)
Still put you under or about the same.
Or if you want it to include a monitor and be a gaming PC then look at my build, you can build it for about $410 shipped, add a nice 22 inch screen for 140, and have plenty of room to spare.

Re: Blitzman's new Desktop.....And he needs help!!!!!
I'd save on the motherboard with a good ebay seller and get a refurbished one. And the video cards, I'd just get 1 nice one so it's less draw on the PSU too. But, those are nice to CF! haha. Less driver issues, less compatibility issues, and they are 512mb, my only reason returning my 4870 was really that it had 512mb ram. It showed in some games with more stutters.Major_A wrote:I know you said no to ATi but I think it's the better option...
