When you overclock do you need to monitor the CPU temp or the temperature of the cpu cores?
Oh yea and do these temps and voltages look stable running i7 920 at core speed of 3351.6?
you're all good dude .. anything over 70C on that and you can start worrying..some might consider that even too warm but as logn as you don't go over you're all good..I will stress to you that if you get that cpu under full load with that OC..those temps will shoot up..the only time I got the i7 to do that was with Prime95 or LinX(stress tests)..regardless, on a stock cooler I wouldn't go much higher than that..voltages are fine too..I have a V10 cooler and the hottest it gets at 3.8 ghz is 70C under full load..(temps should be little lower, but I live in Vegas)

as long you don't go over 70C yes, you're fine....I don't think memtest stress the cpu though..not that i remember anyway..Prime95 and LinX will though

Same. ..also your motherboard reports only the cpu temp, so I would stick with that..software ones(coreTemp,RealTemp, that EVGA monitor is based of one of those), are ok..they tend to be 5-10C higher than what the motherboard says though

Yeah, when i was runnign memtest86 i could only see the CPU temp and not the core temps. SO if the cpu was like 45-50c i didnt know how high the core temps were so i just shut it down in fear of melting my cpu or mobo. I thought they might have been 70+ if the CPU temp was that high. I took off the overclock for now and right now my mobo says 23c for cpu and real temp says my cores are at 32c 35c 38c and 39c @ stock mhz.
if you're at 45-50C you're not close at all to overheating..as far as the lifespan..that's a little hard to answer..Many things can come into play on that..Not enough thermal compound, higher than 75-80C temps can shorten it, Power surges can definitely kill the cpu if not the whole rig....Use Prime 95 or LinX to really stress the cpu..hitting the high temps once or twice won't kill your processor(not if you're just seeing how far you can go)..just don't leave it that way lol
