If you were going to Afghanastan...

If you were going to Afghanastan...

If you were 22 years old and going to Afghanastan with a brand new out of the box laptop... What would you want on it when it comes to software?

I really depends on the person. I taught myself how to use photoshop and some basic flash. I finished quite a few games too. A good CODEC pack will also come in handy. You need to find something to occupy your off time.

Games, games, and more games. Think ROMs and emulators.

The ability to produce a forcefield or at least a toughbook to protect myself.

Probably photo editing stuff depending on the reason for the trip. If its all leisure then games, editing software (music, pics, video) Some single player games since there prob wont be internet. But if it was me going there (im 23) I prob wouldnt be on the computer all that much unless to copy over pics from the camera.

The people who get caught are the ones not being smart about it. Some dummy actually put it on a government computer and shared it out.

I would want some language learning software like Rosetta Stone.

You can go a long way knowing the local language. It might not be entertaining, but you will never have trouble finding a bathroom.

A lot of guys over there have net access. I'd probably load up a few different types of messaging software. Skype and Yahoo messenger are the two that I used with my buddies that went over. Yahoo voice works fairly well actually, at least it did a few years ago. Anything to kill the time is good. DVDs are also a popular item to send over, so you might compress (DiVX, etc) a few and throw on.

If you are on a network it is usually being monitored for various things. No pern on the network! Of course throwing it into a system folder and renaming the files and extensions should get you around most of that stuff.
I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong.
