As soon as they get an i7 killer I'll jump back on the bandwagon. Hard to argue 32nm.

If I had the funds, I would go back to AMD. My 3800x2 always seemed more "smooth" than my intel cpu's(e2140, e5200). :?

I remember when my father told me (when he was working at IGT before retiring) that they were switching to dual-core CPU's.. Apparently Intel was even trying to get with them on that front during that time, but slots really don't need too much power to flip a card or turn a wheel. Plus AMD is a bit more affordable. A win for AMD in my book. Oh yea, I just remembered that the GameCube was powered by ATI graphics too.(not that it's too relevant since it's old hardware by now lol)

I thought the 360 used ATI graphics as well, or am I imaging that?

I've loved AMD since my 486DX4-100. Used them exclusivly until the Core2Duo came out.

It might be old hardware but the specs of the ATI GFX capabilities in both are not that far off, unfortunately :( Still love the gamecube and Wii though, I just pray the next generation nintendo has next generation graphics too, it really does matter.

I always said AMD was for multimedia stuff, like video and gaming, where Intel was for the workforce. My Rig will be AMD biased, with a HD 4890 GPU.

I just can't wait till AMD comes out with a processor that can do something like hyperthreading, then the tides will turn from Intel to AMD :)

When looking for a laptop, AMD was the only choice for me. It was a little hard to find vs. the amount of Intel offerings last year.

#11 The AMD FireStream 9170 provides the industry's first double-precision floating point capability on a GPU. Should be a good folder. =D>

Ok, should have specified that I built systems with e6600s and it was the same way. Even though my AMD system seemed more smooth, it can not touch what I have currently in games. :supz:

With LGA775 chips, the higher the FSB the faster they feel. My old E6750 felt faster than my Phenom II 940BE running 500Mhz slower, but it had a FSB of 1333MHz so I guess it makes sense

#2 is interesting, didn't know that about the Wii (and I even own one!)

My very first non-OEM PC had an AMD Athlon and I've built AMD systems exclusively ever since. For me it's always been about the performance-per-dollar and it's hard to beat AMD in this arena. For awhile there during the Athlon XP and Athlon 64 era they were even arguably better than Intel. With 4 systems in the house it's certainly easier to maintain when they're all based on AM2/+/3 processors although they haven't sold me on their graphics cards or chipsets.

Where did you get all these facts about AMD processors in super computers?

I work at a large super computing facility and all our machines are intel based.

I'm curious to see a list of other facilities that are using AMD.

thanks
