OMG those are some serious machines you have there! Really nice parts selection! Is that a Ti ROOX seat post? I thought only a few hundred of those were ever made? That rear derailer must be smooth as silk. That's definately a collector's edition bike, but there's no cobwebs there. Timeless. What is material is the frame?

Oh I forgot to mention I had those Magura brakes, they were the fluid brakes where the pads clamped stright onto the hoops. Those Magura's had almost the same stopping power of some disc brakes. I used to have a LiteSpeed Obed with the Magura's on it. And that funky fork, the L5 or H5 that 30lb experiment that we all thought would be the fork of the future hehe.

I wish it was the Roox Ti seat post, I just missed getting one back when I built the bike. ...... The front Triangle of the frame is made by Klein, smooth welds and all, it also has the Klein upgraded and double sealed BB. The rear triangle is made in Germany by Storck, It won several awards for it function and stability. I really like the Magura brakes, I've tried several differant disk setups and really didn't care for them alot. The best stopping power did come from a set of Hope Disks though, but they were a pain to setup and maintain. I haven't tried any of the current disks, I just stick to my old tried and trun Maguras.............

YEs we are. A Klein downtube, and Storck rear triangle, wow? I thought those welds looked spotless. You can't even see a bead! Yikes! The XT Disc's are really great, but to be honest with ya I haven't tested them downhill. I broke my back right after the first Hopes were on Downhill bikes. I had them on my MTN Cycle San Andreas. I never really did that great while racing. I was sponsored, but anybody can be sponsored by a Bike Shop. I actually got into to it becasue I just loved the technical aspect of it. Once I started riding NORBA I kind of got turned off by the competition. For example I wouldn't "nudge" someone into a tree at 30-miles an hour to gain 3-places to finish 26th hehe. Seemed like the sport wasn't as commercialized when the first Pedro's races at Killington VT were held back in 1991.

Talking about this has got me somewhat depressed though, because it was really a spiritual thing for me. I can barely throw my leg over a bike now, in fact I can only stand for about 20-min max. I found peace on some long rides, especially in the Happy Valley. The wildlife society had relased like 7 pairs of Eagles at the Quabbin Reservoir about 25 miles from Amherst, and one pair of Eagles used to fly the Mt Holoyoke range to hunt. I'd ride right to the cliff's edge looking over Mt Holyoke and those birds would fly the thermals about ten feet away. HUGE birds!

My best sporting experience was surfing Cape Cod in September, the water was still warm, all the tourists were gone, and the swells would just slam the Upper Cape. Welfleet beaches like Marconi can hold 20-ft swells easy. Most people never realize how big surfing is on Cape Cod because the big swells come like clock work in the Spring, and in late August, September, even October. Brings tears to my eyes. Nothing like looking out over the dunes (actually 100-ft cliffs at Marconi) watch the sunset, my girl at my side drving me crazy, and when we surfed the Seals would watch you for hours, so you were never alone. hehe. Whereas in Hawaii and California, your lined up like your at the Motor Vehicle Dept, just to catch one decent wave after three hours of sitting in Polluted CA water.

I can't say I was ever any good at surfing, but I used to play at it as a teen while I was in Hawaii (my dad was also military). To be honest, the main reason I got into surfing at all was the girls, and with me being a horny teen, I guess you can figure it out.............. Surfing do work though...............
I'll have to dig some of my alp crossing pics and scan them so I can post them. Some of the greatest riding in the world, only did it one time, but that was enough.................never have been so sore in my life. Took a week of ridding from the time you get up in the morning to the time you're ready for bed. The hardest rase I've ever done was the Alp Extreme, 300 KM in a 24 hour period, I thought I would die, it's really makes yourself think about what and who you really are.

Catch up is alot of fun........... But really, the way I see it, just live life the way you want, not the way others think you should. And most of all, have fun at what you're doing or don't do it. Life is way to short to to worry about the small sh!t. I guess that may sound like a "60's " thing, but hey, it worked out all right for me for the most part.
